Reading this story line has been a joy. When I was about 11, I would buy every BC paperback when I saw it at the grocery store. I would read one cover to cover every night before going to sleep. This sequence was one of my favorites.
They are not wrong, but they are misused. Stereotypes are not randomly assigned to groups of people who are similar. They develop over time by observing a pattern of generalized behavior. They can be accurate when looking at a the group (advertising and marketing do this all the time). The problem comes when you try to apply a stereotype to an individual.
