Would have been far better to teach them the material.
    .
“OK, class, we were supposed to be teaching you 4th grade material, but we are a couple of grades behind. So, we’ll cheat instead.” Boy, that sure sends a great message…

I worked for a place like that once. Seriously. The company was judged by the test results of it’s employees (we were military sub-contractors). The “training department” handed us the answers to the test, told us to copy them onto the test sheet, then said: “Sign here. Congratulations, you’re trained.”

What a lazy teacher, if you want to do that, teach him tricks to retain information, or better, teach in a way they can retain information.

Couple years ago, I was covering a study hall, and the TV monitors in all the study halls were running (pretty much all day, on a loop) a program of advice about how to take standardized tests. The advice included getting a good night’s sleep, having a good breakfast, and lots of generic strategy for multiple choice testing (answer the ones you know first, then go back and see if you can narrow to two possible answers before guessing, etc.)… the one thing they never mentioned was knowing the material… which the kids could have been studying if they’d not been made to watch this video on test-taking strategies.

Ahhhh. Ozy but you are learning.
Learning how to take the tests and make good scores.
Never mind the content just pass the test.
And keep the perception down to a minimum.
Don’t lay all your cards on the table.

The problem is that they’re spending so much time with testing that it takes time away from useful learning.

I remember back years ago in school being selected to partake in a new revolutionary type of teaching.
Self Motivated….It was the SRA method.
There were these big containers with learning materials. My task was to start at One and go to the end. There were like thirty of these things. All with different stuff to learn. I finished all thirty in about a month and a half. Took all the tests. Scored at 100% Took the final 100%. Then sat for the rest of the school year while everyone else caught up. They had to give me stuff to stay busy. I went to reading the Encyclopedias.
I am a “scan” reader as I can look at a page of words and tell you the story without reading each individual word. I was told it was a form of speed reading as I seem to see only the important words. I do that typing as I will leave out what to me would be non essential words. A form of shorthand without the squiggles and marks. I take notes that way. Only the important words leaving out the rest. The important words trigger the sentence in my mind.

I like how quickly the teacher’s ears pivot through the hat.

And was, and ever will be. Only accurate test is the essay exam. You won’t see too many of these in public school. Takes way too much time to grade these.
    .
Air Force induction can be nasty too. They give you story problems and all the answers that LOOK right. You have to be able to run the formula in your head to find out which one is right. I enjoy the find the shape. There are 5 basic shapes. One of them is hidden in a drawing of a pile of coat hangers.

Oh, I like this comic, it’s cute. Too bad Dana Simpson didn’t do both. This strip is a variation of other comics, both old school and new: Pogo, Winnie The Pooh, Kevin & Kell and of course, Endtown

This is the corporate eugenics way. Just like with IQ tests and teaching to the test. Failures all and yet it has been embraced or forced on our schools.

Sounds like the Texas STAAR tests.
They spend weeks studying the test before taking it.
Teachers go to classes to learn how to teach to the test.
They even have an online site to make Practice tests so kids can learn how to do it.
Required passing the final one to get your diploma. You can graduate and be done but if you don’t pass the test NO diploma.
