Boots on the ground and flag draped coffins coming back home.

The old ways are best, eh, Matt, Dead US soldiers mean the job was done right.

Soon the NRA will lobby for personal use drones, just for hunting and target practice of course.
ARodney said, 4 months ago
Well, they were for plastic guns for sneaking on airplanes and cop-killer armor-piercing bullets, so I don’t see any reason the NRA would not be in favor of personal missile-firing drones. If it kills people, it’s good for freedom, right?

But what’s not to love? They’re so much like video games!!

“Dead US soldiers mean the job was done right.”
Hardly. Soldiers make honest mistakes & unless commanders are rigorous about maintaining discipline, young soldiers tend to get caught up in the “us vs. them” mentality. They justify all manner of atrocities in the name of protecting themselves & their buddies.
I suppose there’s also the idea that when you can fight a war without any risk to your personnel, that the barrier to engaging in war becomes much lower.
The big problem I have with the drone program, is that it is being run with no oversight at all. Obama maintains the kill list & personally authorizes many operations. I can understand that making a list of suspected terrorists isn’t a great idea, but there should be a system of checks & balances. Obama has failed to correct a terrible legacy from Bush & has actually expanded it.

wmconelly: You probably meant that as satire, but the Pentagon uses skill at first-person-shooter video as a clue to the “shoot anything that moves” mentality so essential to flying drones.

So true. No wonder they hate us in Pakistan and Yemen.

@ARodney
The plastic guns had steel barrels which showed up on x-rays and give me an instance of a cop killed by an “armor piercing bullet.” Most bullets used for really big game animals will defeat body armor.

@Uncle Joe
You know Obama isn’t making up the list. It comes from the CIA and Pentagon and so on.
bhinkle said, 4 months ago
Whoa, it can’t be! Mr. Obama approving of the Bush drone plan? 90% of all drone kills are due to the Bush era, not Mr. Obama’s. All of you who get your news from other than Fox must know this. Where’s the out-rage at this mistaken comic?

@Radish
Sorry, Radish can’t have it both ways. Either the CIC is giving the approval or it wouldn’t be being done. This is routine now, but the Osama op had to be agonized over?

Good hunting.

That’s the one thing that I agree with O about.

If it had failed Obama would have lost the election.
