“Who’s that knock-knocking on my chamber door? A crow.” She seems entitled to his loyalty and doesn’t appear to see how her behaviour has impacted their relationship. Les’ response to her presence is about him acting out rather than her own failings as a parent. Zero remorse and a veiled threat of “so this is how it’s going to be?”
If it were any colder in there, the door handle would have frost on it.
Ann is wearing Fuse uniform colors.
The nightmare is unfolding little by little… GET ON WITH THE “PARTY” ALREADY!
And Ann is wearing Kafe Kablooie colors because…..
If Eiffel intends ill, Les may foil her just because. ;)
Yeah, that’s the way it is, you witch. I am tired of your bull feathers. Get lost.
So the giant door-shaped hole at the top of the door is actually a giant door-shaped hole at the top of the door? I thought there would be a little door in that hole, where you could open the little door and say, “What’s the password?” to someone outside.
And what happened then?Well in Whoville they sayThat the Grinch’s smallheart grew three sizes that day.
I think Les’s anger is mostly from the fact that his name is Leslie Eiffel.
Aaaaaand the claws are right out.
One thing I notice in how these panels are drawn is how close these two look like each other, given the hair color in particular. She has been definitely in need of parenting skills to put it mildly. I keep saying this lingerie party, which has put together the characters directly involved with Les, with the Degroot’s, Pru, and Ox being part of the dramatic context (where is TJ btw) is part of a bigger story. I am wrong so much with this misdirection strip, but this is no way going to settle that soon. Long arc, long arc!!
Hey Gunther, are You Watching THIS??
THIS, the way You “Back Sass” Your Mom, and to the Thunderous Applause and Support of Readers on Two Forums.
Observe that Les is so Mad that He’s got spit coming out His Mouth in Panel Three. A Nice “Sullen and Angry” Touch!
well let’s hope it warms up a bit before the lingerie models go on.
Where the hell is TJ?
Ann’s way too callous to really be expressing motherly intent. She’s trying to use the mother-son relationship to manipulate and control Les.
I’m just wondering….did it come out at any time that Les knows exactly what his mother is planning? Other than a “lingerie party?”
Wizardgoat! You appear to be be all-knowing sage of Luann, so maybe you can answer this— in an earlier comic, didn’t Mr. Gray mention something about Les owing payment to Ms. Awful? (I f she abandoned him, how would he owe ANYTHING to her?)
Yep. She’s a real muther, alright…
If Leslie doesn’t like Ann why did he help her rent the Fuse?

Well we got one more drum roll before the orchestra plays – however it was a good one. Most of us think Ann’s event is something illegal – but we don’t know for sure. And Les has been with the plan until now – most of us think he is going with the plan as a form or repayment for his debt. On the other hand – we really don’t know enough about the history between the two. Reading the comments above – I see a lot of people are rooting for Les – which I can’t bring myself to do yet. We did get a good signal that Les likes Nancy & Ox – and may change the game for their benefit. Nevertheless I’d like to see a result more interesting than the time TJ showed Ann the door out of Weenie World.
I’m sure Les refers her by another name off site, however. She would be wise to accept him calling her “Ann” instead of the ‘alternative’.
Possible Scenario #1: Maybe Ann had good reason (for the time) to have ‘run off’ to Japan. Maybe someone even told Les that that’s what she did, but perhaps that was to cover up the fact that she was going through some other thing…or maybe someone just made that whole thing up, and kept them apart (unbeknownst to Les). Guess it doesn’t matter to Les, he perceived it all as a major slap in his face- and it looks like it’s a perpetual trap (for them both), that whenever you try to dig yourself out of the pain, you only dig a deeper hole.
Possible Scenario #2: Maybe Ann was mad at Les’ dad for being in a dangerous line of work (for which her deepest fear was realized), and also had quarrels with her brother (Al Gray), and adding to that, a strained relationship with her son….all culminating in her becoming bitter toward men, and her need to manipulate and her seeming cold and distant (as a sense of ‘protection’ from getting too close, and winding up hurt, again). And any chance at mending fences (between Eiffel, Knox and Gray) is constantly met with the pain and resentment built up over time….
All villains in Luann get turned sympathetic eventually. Tiffany; Les; it will happen to Eiffel eventually.
Eiffel must be older than she looks.
And your father? You tell him, Mr. Vader!
Tbh we also call our parents by name in this family, but it is for a completely different reason than Les´.
I am thinking real estate scam. Craig’s List for sale restaurant called the “Fuse” , $50,000,00 and take over payments. Cash in hand. Adios Ann.
And Mr. Gray…is where???…..
Oh boo-hoo-hoo Leslie. He and boo-hoo Tiffany would be a perfect match. They could whine together!
And a good time was had by none…
where’s the cheese?
Wrong emphasis. It’s not “I am your mother,” it’s “I am your mother.” And put more boom in your voice.
So this is how this arc is going to be?
Some guys might get violent.
Oh Come Annie! This Is Your Only Son You’re talking to! Get That Mascara Running and get to the “Guilt Trip” part about How You (Occasionally) raised Him, and MORE Importantly, Breast-Fed Him!
Speaking of ‘Breasts’…….,
Other than a slap to his face, I don’t see any clue to tomorrow’s teaser.
Ox locked himself out through the front door. If brought back, it would be hard to have him meet Ann in a single day’s worth of panels.
Les could be asked to unload Ann’s car, parked right next to the back door.
If you were never there for your kid than you don’t deserve the title of “mom” or “dad”
Virtues of Ann: Well, she always dresses well, and, um …. Oh, you can rely on her to behave in a certain way. There you go!
As S-Dog suggested, this arc could be about Les’s moral choice between his old terrible family and his new supportive family at the Fuze. That seems easy looking from the outside, but may be much tougher when one is faced with turning in your own mother.
Don’cha just LOVE family re-unions??!! Hoo-Boy!!! :)
I think he feels more like family with the Fuse bunch after what Nancy told him. Perhaps his loyalty will shift and he will put a stop to his mom’s evil plan.
Can’t help thinking that Greg will not let us see what the “party” is until next week.
And I thought my opinion of Ann couldn’t get any lower. Then again, given how she is, the best thing she could have done was abandon him…
I’d hit that
The plot might be moving too slow for some, but only in these 1-1 painful interactions do we have a chance to learn about their shared history, which we know little about.
I know we’re supposed to be sympathizing with Leslie for having a bad mother (and I’m pretty certain he’ll do the right thing to foil whatever her scheme against the Fuse is) but the guy sexually harrassed/intimidated a series of high school girls, as well as garden variety bullying and theft. Is he going to blame all that on Ann not being around?
Interesting story today. Is Les going to go along with the supposed nefarious plan or will he now thwart it? His especially strong negativity towards his mother suggests he may attempt to thwart whatever is the plan.
Wasn’t it Les’ idea to have his mom hold her business party at the Fuse? Why is he angry with her now? Did something happen since he willingly helped her schedule her party with Pru?
Some titles are earned. And Ann obviously didn’t earn the title of “Mom” from Leslie. I hope he does the right thing and blows the whistle on her.
As the younger soul grew stronger, hesitating then no longer,
Flung open door, the Cold he abhorred – terrors somehow felt before,
But a silence fell unbroken, and Her Darkness gave no token,
Then, ‘Hello, Ann’, and to her, his words tore,
Will Les see The Light, the crowds implore?
Quoth the Raven …… ’Caw!! – CAW!!!!’
… Well, … just WHAT did you EXPECT from stupid scavenger-birds, anyway?!! POETRY ?!!! ;)
What do you expect Annie, after dumping your kid twice? You’re lucky if your Mother’s Day Card isn’t poisoned.
“………. yes and lets begin by noting that you are paying just $500 to carry out this illegal ??*%! affair on property owned by good well meaning people that you intend to cheat and abuse………….and maybe I have changed my mind about helping you with these events…”
A donor of biological matter who does not stay around to help with the growth of the result of the donation is a donor. Not a parent…
My, my! The warmth of the Mother and Child Reunion! Maybe the day will get better….
Did Leslie live in Las Vegas with his uncle Gray?
I keep thinking it will be something that Ann’s customers paid for, that they won’t get – with Ann making a quick getaway. Maybe something like “Meet young Russian beauties that want to get married.”
Readers and posters on this site keep asking “Where is TJ?” Like the Lone Ranger, TJ sjpwsp u[ when and where he is needed. Has any one ever considered a romance between TJ and Luann? Bet we see him sometime in the near future.
