Once again you prove your powers of observation. Of course we all see you for what you are too.

I think Jon Stewart said that it routinely takes 10 to 13 years to become a citizen.

Maddow, Stewart, and Colbert are the most intelligent pundits on right now. They actually cite sources.

It is simple really, it should take no more than one year to legally immigrate to this country. Where it was that originally ALL immigrants, (who mainly came through Ellis Island) took only about two hours to legally enter the USA from such areas as Europe. Many did not even speak English at that time, but they almost all became good US citizens eventually creating the greatest single democratic republic the world has ever seen.

Not only should it take only about one year to enter the country legally, it should also take no more than about five years to become totally legal citizens, and it should even take no more that that for the millions of illegal immigrants that are now here to also become citizens. If, as some of the mire ultra conservatives here and such as he Tea Party types are saying most of those eleven million (or perhaps even more) illegal immigrants were criminals as they say, then our entire American civilization would be brought down over night!!

There is indeed a bad element in the smugglers of human beings, and even more in the drug cartels coming our of Mexico (and the Mexicans themselves have to live with that even far more than we do), but the vast majority (certainly just as much a majority as the rest of we Americans) are good hard working people that just wan the same chance at a decent life as the rest of us do!

I knew a fellow while I was still working in aerospace some time ago that had an interesting story about such. He wanted to have a sprinkler system installed in his back yard. He decided to go and hire some of the fellows standing in front of Home Depot to at least do the heavy work of the digging in the summer heat that it would take. He hired several such young men of which at least one spoke reasonable English. He had already estimated the job would take at least some four days. To his joy and great surprise these men finished the job in only one day, and did it for far less than the so called honest American contractors had said it would take. He stated to the one that spoke the best English just how amazed he was (after giving the men a good bonus and a beer for a job very well done). The man then said to him, “Oh, it was easy senor, we have to work far harder in Mexico for far less money!”

I have had nothing but respect for these kinds of immigrant workers ever since. And if such hard work would (as many conservatives state) make for good citizens, then these types of people would very well make better citizens that many that oppose their very citizenship!!!

Oh, I’m definitely on the watch for terrorists. Especially the ones in plain sight, stockpiling armaments and rumbling about “Second Amendment solutions”.
Threatening violence to get others to change their political views or actions is a definition of terrorism, as I’m sure you know.

Most of the trades that do outdoor work have someone bilingual who estimates and draws up plans. Then they have a crew that doesn’t speak English do the real work
I had a sprinkler system put in, too
An exception was when I had a screen room added, the hard workers came in to demolish the old patio and then one guy and a young helper did the rest.

There was a TV show about Ellis Island a while back. The immigrants were given physicals so that they didn’t have infectious diseases and then filled out some forms, took their oath and went with a sponsor.

Another interesting fact, was that the administrators that dealt with literally millions of Europeans had a very hard time with most of the more difficult names of such people. Ever even try to pronounce some Hungarian names, let alone write them in the Hungarian alphabet (I think it is the same Cyrillic alphabet as Russian, although I am not certain of that)?

So they just wrote down “Smith” or Jones" or some other common and easily spelled and pronounced names. Which is one reason why even today such names are the most common ones in the US.

I sometimes think that my mind is like an old attic, chock full of little tidbits of information like that!
