Grand Avenue stars Kate Macfarlane, an avid sports fan who powerwalks to stay in shape. Not your typical cookie-baking granny, Grandma Kate has her hands full with her terrific twosome, who are best buddies even though their personalities clash. Gabby is an ambitious, newspaper-reading little girl who plans to become a billionaire before she's 30. Her brother Michael is a more sensitive soul who prefers riding his skateboard or performing scenes from Shakespeare to just about anything else.

lol, my mom used to say if we were to sick too go to school then we were too sick to get out of bed and watch TV or play. Hard to believe that all these years later if i call in to work for a mental health day, I never leave the house and just lay around all day.

My mom was a nurse. So all she did was call the doc. He’d call the drug store and I got my shot at home.

These days though when I get a shot I really expect to get a beer chaser.

I would never stay home from school if I felt sick ’cause my stepmother would find all kinds of chores for me to do. I would get more rest at school.

I would have to be knocked out with the stomach flu to stay home. But there was no such thing as staying home. My angry mother would pick me up from school threatening that I better be sick. The regular flu was no biggie. If you are outdoors in the cold all the time doing a paper route with only a thin jacket in Michigan, you actually get toughened up to flu and the coughing subsides. You never even develop a strong cough. After I moved out I never had the stomach flu again, but I did get the strong cough from being indoors more.
