Her parents named the dog Indiana . Her name might be Sam. Didja know there really was a Vendyl Jones very similar to the fictional movie guy? Vendyl(think Wendell) was born in Sudan. Texas.

Reminds me of the experiment with two shoelaces and two foot-sized boards—-the kids were told to hop across the floor without their feet touching. They tied the boards to their feet and walked across. But when some kids were given one board and one shoelace, they tied the shoelace ‘round the board and hopped across.

Actually the last girl in line kind of looks like Sam (glasses and everything) though wouldn’t it be interesting if Indiana’s real name was Holly?

" Actually the last girl in line kind of looks like Sam (glasses and everything) though wouldn’t it be interesting if Indiana’s real name was Holly?".

You could be correct, I think this is the first time we have seen that girl. I just thought Indiana was a small girl with freckles, and my little mind just put them together. Based on Marx’s look, I suspect this is older than any other strip I can think of. However, I did not read all of Aaron’s previous stories before aaronneathery.org went away.

Oh yeah, you were correct in writing that prolly wasn’t a ponton Mercedes-Benz the other day. On closer inspection I saw several disqualifiers. I was just thinking of a ponton coupe my third-grade teacher had mumbles years ago. She was gorgeous, and that was the first Benz I rode in.

Indiana may grow up to be Holly. Maybe we’ll see after Aaron gets better and can get back to work. I almost hate to mention this, but I think Albert and Free Energy is 230 strips long.

If Aaron had to take it easy for a while, he has a catalog. But if Aaron chose an extended break, it would be cool to continue new content on Sundays, like Trudeau does over at Doonesbury.

GET WELL AARON! I has spoken !
(bonus points to those who catch the reference).

    Indiana JonesEdit

Jones also claimed to have been the subject of a movie script that was circulated in Hollywood, and which he claimed inspired the character of Indiana Jones. According to the story, a certain Randolph Fillmore, who had been on one of Jones’s digs, wrote the first draft for Raiders of the Lost Ark; Vendyl became “Endy”, then “Indy”.2 However, accounts of the making of the film flatly contradict this. Philip Kaufman and George Lucas came up with the idea of an archaeologist hunting for the Ark, while Indiana was the name of Lucas’s Alaskan Malamute. The character was to be named Indiana Smith after Nevada Smith (Steve McQueen’s character in the eponymous film), and this was changed to Indiana Jones by Steven Spielberg.3

More recently, the FAQ section of Jones’s web page has stated that, “It may be hard to believe but Vendyl has no connection with the popular motion picture character [Indiana Jones]. He has never received any money from the producers of the movie. And he’s never asked.” 4

Other men more frequently identified as the inspiration for Indiana Jones are Hiram Bingham III, Colonel Percy Fawcett and Roy Chapman Andrews.567 A Smithsonian Channel analysis concludes that the similarities to these men was indirect, with explorers like these serving as the model for heroes in adventure films of the 1940s and 1950s, which inspired writers like Lucas.8
