It's the End of Civilization as we know it. A mutagenic plague followed by a global war fought with disintegration weaponry has left much of the Earth a desert of fine powder and what remains of humanity fragmented into humans, animal-like mutants and bloodthirsty monstrosities with lots of teeth. The surface, still teeming with the mutagenic virus, has become the domain of the dreaded Topsiders; well-organized, technologically advanced, and heavily armed un-mutated humans sworn to exterminate mutations of any kind in order to clear the way for the eventual resurgence of a new, genetically clean humanity. Faced with annihilation, mutants and "impure" humans have retreated into the depths of the planet to form communities and hope to win, or at least survive, what may prove to be mankind's final war. Endtown is the continuing story of one of those communities.

And yet, not unanimous. Curious.

“Next up for a vote, allowing the ruling majority to expand the powers of the Mayoral position. Let’s tie it to the ability of the High Council to select the next Mayor.”

Well, we have a whole weekend to anticipate what he is thinking about. Lets hope it is something intelligent. I still think that the issue of the fish eating what ever goes into the water…not beans I think… in something that comes from the other citizens of EndTown . Where does garbage go?
Commenters want to know. Me first. Thus all fish or other characters of the water need to go to jail too. Yup!!

I’m going to guess she has helped a lot of people to adjust to their new selves. This is based on her conversation with her step-father when Wally was recovering in the hospital.

I lived in a town, sixty thousand or so
Where a few were quite popular. Those in the know
Were most of the town, or so it seemed
Lock them up and you’d flinch as the whole town screamed!

What’s curious? Allgood said he had a majority on the council, not that he owned everybody. The dissenting minority is free to express their opinions, too. For now.

Thinking more on how knowing who’s on the council can influence them… The influencer can get to them after their term, not before. Bad people can find them afterward and retaliate for any upsetting decisions. How someone voted doesn’t matter; if the decision gets on the bad guys’ bad side, all of them can suffer for it. Council members may try to avoid getting on the bad side.

@Three Steps Over Japan
Since you asked, I wasn’t noting an inconsistency- merely drawing attention to the intriguing possibility of dissent from within.

And therein lies the problem of democracy vs. a constitutional republic. No base set of laws to prevent the ruling group from running wild.

Remember to vote as much as possible over the weekend. See Level_Head’s or SurfStuff55’s links. I will have real comments over the weekend about the allegedly random institutionalized autocratic anarchy.

The Council(?) exhibit little respect for the mayor. I treat clown mouths at burger joints with more respect. I have celiac so I cannot eat gluten in bread like products.

Nice to see the mayor at least try to stand up to someone.
Do the council members know how each one votes? Are they going to punish the dissenter, somehow? Guess time will tell..

Only one voice… No one is visible… At best it seems we have an oligarchy here. Could there have been a coup de council? This tone is much rougher than that expressed by Allgood. I sense there is a need for an Underground underground. Wally W.: Rebel-in-Chief. When in the course of mutant events… ;-)
