"Garry Trudeau is the premier American social and political satirist of his time." -Newsweek Doonesbury has managed to be articulate, abrasive, political, compassionate, misunderstood, misprinted, and outrageous - but one thing it's never been is complacent. Garry Trudeau's creation has chronicled American history and culture in a parallel universe. And through it all, Doonesbury has always been honest, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

Today’s strip opens the door for comments about women being gossipy.

National Security and science are contradictory. One is for limitation of information and dissemination of false information where as Science goes by interaction of information and is hurt by false information.

No gender has the lock on gossip. Men do it all the time. They may not call it that but empirically it is.

Reminds me of the Mad satire on ‘The Spy Who Loved Me.’
“Only three people have seen this course.. the Minister of Defense, the Admiral of the Navy … and the man at the five and dime store who makes copies.’
“And the captain of the sub.’
‘Oh .. we never let him see it.’
“H’mmm … that may be taking security a bit too far.’

Women gossip; men share their thoughts. A gray-haired man looks distinguished; a gray-haired woman looks old. A man who loses his temper is under a lot of pressure; a woman who loses her temper is hysterical. And so on…

No problem. The MIBs will just neuralize them again like the last five times this happened.

Dang, she just dumped it directly to the unemployed reporter and the blocked writer. I’d figured it for Jeff hacking that information in order to juice up his “Red Rascal” sequel.
Trudeau’s got no ingenuity whatsoever, does he?

The funny thing, it seems to come down largely to the pitch of the voice. Deep-voiced women and high-voiced men lose some of this differential.

Once gossip appeared as a crime in the criminal code, but not gossip per se, which is just sharing news about people in a community: malicious gossip was criminal, which was gossip intended to defame, injure, or discredit. In face-to-face societies, reputation was everything. It didn’t even matter if the the gossip was true — it was the intent to do harm that was seen as criminal.

Ah, but a woman with gray hair looks confident.
