^Liberals just know that if you shoot a “burglar”, make sure they “fall” INSIDE the house before you call the cops. Well, actually, they know that actual “burglars” want NO PART of entering a home that’s occupied, even by a yappy little dog (that makes a better burglar alarm than ATD).

One night while my wife and I were sleeping, two men broke into our home. Since they broke in at the other end of the house, I had time to grab my gun and I immediately let them know that I was armed. I didn’t have to actually use it but I feel certain that my wife and I would have been victimized had it not been for the gun; victims to what extent we’ll never know…thank God! By the time the sheriff’s deputies arrived, they were long gone.

No reasonable person (liberals included) is saying that law abiding citizens should not be able to have ordinary firearms such as hand guns, rifles, or shot guns. In turn no law abiding citizen should be against a reasonable back ground check when they buy firearms. Or would even want or need military style high magazine capacity assault weapons (which would be very heavy over kill (pun perhaps intended) for such as home defense. I am certain that if you had to actually fire your firearm you would not wish to have a high powered bullet go through your walls and kill your neighbors kid(s) either. By the way, good for you in actually using your home defense firearm in such a reasonable and safe manner!!

    @Robert Landers

I’ll add to that by saying that the best gun for home defense is a shot gun. It goes boom (which will scare the hell out of any would be burglars), won’t tear through the walls, and it will be loud enough to alert the neighbors to call the police. A hand gun is great but you have to have really good aim, otherwise the bullet tears through the wall and God forbid it hits one of the rooms where people are sleeping (a reason why accidental shootings happen in the home).

Or you could build homes unable to be broken into.

So, is this analysis of gun control proposals based on simple paranoia, galloping ignorance or plain old stupidity?

Or is the problem that the proposals make so much sense that you can’t attack them without simply lying about what they are?

Unless that law-abiding citizen is actually someone who has trained extensively with the “assault weapon” (there is no such thing, by the way, it’s called a rifle) thanks to the US Military that that’s what they are comfortable with. Failure drills are something that are drilled into us time and again, and if you don’t know what that is, you don’t have the right to tell me I’m not permitted to purchase the 5.56×45mm, light-weight, gas-operated, air-cooled, semi-automatic, hand-held, shoulder-fired carbine of which you are so afraid.

Wrathkins said, “Unless that law-abiding citizen is actually someone who has trained extensively with the “assault weapon”…”

The American population is 309 million people as of 2010, and of those people 2,266,833 have joined the military (as of 2010). That’s less than .8% of the population that is in the armed forces. Are you telling me that just because .8% of the population can use assault rifles that we shouldn’t have a ban on these weapons? Just like a Republican: All the rules don’t apply them because of a small minority of people say they don’t!

How many collective lifetimes of planning for an imaginary showdown with a burglar do we think America’s most paranoid have sunk into this comically ridiculous debate? It’s especially funny when you consider that guns are one of the most burgled items.

I’m curious. If I want to purchase a “… 5.56×45mm, light-weight, gas-operated, air-cooled, semi-automatic, hand-held, shoulder-fired carbine” and say I am “…trained extensively with the “assault weapon” thanks to the US Military…” is that enough?

Its a lie, but how would anyone know that?

    Here is some interesting reading:

This last one has some enlightening information.

So, care to comment on it?

So then you are using FMJ rather than a bullet that is designed to break up upon impact? WHY?

Well then, do you have your DD-214? Line 26 lists your qualifications including weapons and marksmanship.

Did you go to a civilian class locally? There is that certificate that is given showing weapon and proficiency with it.

Are you buying your rifle from wal-mart (yeah, they sell them)? Funny, they ask for that information and confirm it before you can pay for the gun then make you wait the requisite amount of time to actually get it so they can check up on it. And that is WAL-MART.

We have laws in effect today that will do all the stuff you want. Why make more? But go ahead. Now show me how the new law will effect a criminal.

5th-Award expert (highest marksmanship rank), out of all 5 attempts. Sorry, was deployed for the other 2 years. But thanks for pointing that out. Besides, most people don’t even know what a DD214 is.
    @ Legendary:
Does that mean it’s okay to discriminate against the millions of veterans who have come and gone in the past 10 years of war? I’m quite certain that number is higher than 2 million. But for someone who is so in-favor of same-sex marriage (where they are most certainly in the minority), why are you so against the rights of our troops? Hmm, a little biased?

Also, you seem to fail to recognize one very major flaw in your logic. Just because you ban a specific set of features on a weapon (mag capacity, pistol grip, etc) does not make other weapons any more or less dangerous. You do realize that a magazine is nothing more than a metal box with a spring, right? I can swap out a magazine in the time it takes to have a magazine hit the deck. If it’s a 10-round mag or a 50-round mag, or even a 100-round drum mag is moot; you can swap mags out quickly. Pistols even moreso. Anyone with any sort of manual dexterity can do that with practice.

And a pistol grip? Please. You could put a 20-round drum on a shotgun with no pistol grip and it’s just as deadly, if not moreso, than an M4 Carbine. All you are suggesting is a movement towards a complete weapons ban, which is a violation of our Constitution. But, let’s not forget: criminals always abide by gun laws. snrk
