@Sharuniboy Incredibly interesting. I learned a lot from you in yesterday’s comments. Thank you.At age 83, it would probably be wise to show you more respect (I am merely 54 – you’re old enough to be my father! Scary thought, eh? :-) So, I apologize for some of the ways I’ve challenged you or toyed with you. I have a playful streak a mile wide, and sometimes it’s mean. Even though I didn’t know your status and many of your comments seem angry and superior, It was wrong of me to do that. I’m sorry. As for religion, you probably know (as I’ve made no attempt to conceal it) that I am one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. We are very scientific in our approach to things, but still seek the scriptures for the final word on matters of faith. I have found that many of the Councils you hold sacred were at odds with the Bible, so I don’t accept their tenets. In this sense, I doubt that we will ever find consensus. But it does not mean we can’t have useful and instructive dialogue.I promise to treat you with more dignity and respect. Thank you for your kind attention…you were not obligated to explain anything, and it is most appreciated.

fritzg: “Abolish trading in futures.” Peoples Party Omaha platform of 1892. In fact, you can take the whole of populism (Cleburne Demands, 1888; Ocala Demands, 1890; and Omaha Platfrorm, 1892), update it a bit (direct election of senators to direct election of president; votes for women to equal rights for women; etc.) and there would still be complaints it is too futuristic to be practical. Indeed, the teabags are currently calling for denying people voting for senators and outlawing any rights for women.

Stripseeker: Since I am in Texas, I haven’t had a senator since Lloyd Benson, nor one I could support since Ralph Yarborough. So I have to chose some other states’ senator for the purpose, and Sanders is my current one. Your evaluation is absolutely correct.

There are worse investment hedges than a good rifle, a good shotgun, and a few cases of ammunition. Eventually you’ll have to load your own though so make sure not to buy anything gas operated (semi-automatic) because soon you’ll be down to making your own powder, primers, and shot.

“Interestingly enough, today Jehova’s Witnesses teach Arianism, as may be found in several of their throw-away publications, where they DO NOT accept Jesus Christ as “The only begotten Son of God”; attempting to liken him to a “kind of God”, of some sort. Christians rejected Arianism many centuries ago. And, of course, today it remains a curiosity; but NOT a part of Christian Theology.”Just a clarification on this point. John 3:16 – 18 states: “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. For God sent forth his Son into the world, not for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him. He that exercises faith in him is not to be judged. He that does not exercise faith has been judged already, because he has not exercised faith in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. "That is EXACTLY what Jehovah’s Witnesses believe. We reject the Trinity for not being a Bible teaching, holding that Jesus is not equal to his Father, the only true God, but definitely IS the only begotten Son of God, our Savior, and the King of God’s Kingdom (the main focus of his ministry). Do you realize that when Jesus quoted scripture, he was quoting the Septuagint, in use at the time? Paul also quoted extensively from it in his writings.Found the rest of your comment interesting. Oddly enough, it didn’t show up yesterday. I thought you had declined to react. Didn’t see it until the next day. Must’ve been because of the mix-up with your user name.Thank you again, and will see you around the comics!
