I forgot my cell at home. Called wife from work, giving a number where I could be reached. Wife got off work 4 hours early, unable to reach me. Mad because I picked her up from work 4 hours late. Told me, " Next time don’t forget your (flippin’) phone." Looked at her cell, she had transposed 2 numbers in my work number given on a prior date. Feeling vindicated, I told her, ‘Next time check your (flippin’) messages." That was when I got the silent treatment. .I did everything I should have, yet it was my fault she didn’t check her messages. .Women, you can’t live with them… (you can finish the rest)
I don’t give anyone the ‘silent treatment’ on purpose, but because I dislike confrontation I tend to clam up and not say anything. It’s a coping mechanism that can sometimes be taken as either the silent treatment or passive aggressiveness when in actuality it’s neither one. Some people just don’t get that you’re not being quiet because you’re mean; you’re being quiet because that’s how you deal with things. Different strokes, folks!

I know guys who do the same thing, it’s not exclusively a female trait. It’s powerplay, whoever does it. You just have to learn not to play.

After 34 years of that kind of “treatment”, I found someone else to talk to.
