Does Wally bluff?Given his posture and expression in the last panel, he seems to be strongly troubled by Flask’s response.

Really, he’s threatening to kill a suicidal woman. She’s probably just going to be like “Well, have at it!” …after she stalls long enough for the missiles to kill them both.

The look on Wally’s face in #4? Is that resignation or sorrow? I think he’s capable of doing it. Just as he was capable of flooring Marx with a sock to the jaw. There’s a lot of power in that little fellow.

After being decked by a mouse, you’d think she’d take Wally a bit more seriously.

Oh, Flask is laughing out loud allright – and it’s perfectly normal. When in a very tense state, resigned, and awaiting a confrontation, this is not even the last thing she expected to hear – it’s a complete surprise. Thus funny, as he’s there unarmed. She’s underestimating him, despite having seen what he can do unarmed with armed opponents.

Another thought on mutating monsters, remember the very first mutation depicted in the strip? When Al got his hand stuck under the TSer’s headgear? He didn’t change into a mountain of anything. In fact, he mutated into something so small that the other TSer only had to step on him to “put him out of his misery”. We have only seen two “mountainous” monsters, but many more that were less so.

If her objective were suicide, she could simply jump overboard, or have Petey drop her at the front door of the outpost. No, she wants the TSers to pay and she has to stay in control of the ship long enough for that to happen.

A little excerpt form the Anthrocon 2012 program book:Seriously FunnyFriday 11a-12pKnow the feeling when your favorite laugh-a-day comic strip is starting to turn deadly serious? Downer! So, is this a good thing or not? Is it planned, or an unhappy accident? Preventable or inevitable? Reversible or past the point of no return? Do you want to give the writer a hug… or a slap? Two comic writer/artisits will talk about their works FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, ANYWHERE: Jenner (‘Doc Rat”) and Aaron Neathery (“Endtown”). Both have touched the highs and lows, and they will take you through their funniest and darkest journeys. Please tell me SOMEONE is going to preserve this for posterity! Oh to be in Pittsburgh now that Aaron and Jenner are collaborating!TRANSCRIPTS!!! My kingdom for a transcript! ;-)

I think she’s laughing hysterically. She doesn’t see Wally as a threat at all, or capable of killing anyone, let alone her. She truly believes he wouldn’t be able to do it. He’s not happy about having to kill her if she decides not to do what he asked.

    Can’t wait for tomorrow! :)

Aaron had this wonderful gift of perfectly capturing what some would call conflicting emotions. Here, Flask is laughing her head off. But the laughter is perfectly mingled with a face of horror. Like the face of someone who has looked into the face of their own Damnation. They see now that their entire life truly was a Joke played on them by Malignant Gods, and they laugh because they finally know these Gods were right: they are a Joke! And even as they see Eternal, Never-Ending Destruction sweeping to Engulf them, they cannot stop their horrific laughter because they finally understand the Punchline and it truly funny. But they cannot lose themselves, even in Madness, for that would be a mercy. They can only laugh and laugh as the full horror of their position dawns on them.

You know, those same claws that once opened alligator hide would probably do a seroius number on a cat’s jugular. What Wally needs now is a facefull of catnip…. ;-)

More damage is done severing the carotid artery than the jugular vein. I bet Wally’s tail is about to do a big time poof, and when that happens, Flask won’t be laughing…she’ll be fighting for her life!

This is the most masterful, two-dimensional rendering of someone going from abject sorrow to mad laughter I have ever seen. The emotions are so raw, especially Wally, curling his fists in the background. I hope for pity’s sake he does not have to kill her. But what would Endtown be without a Flask character, whom everyone loves to hate?

Maybe she will roll on the floor laughing and he could tie her up or shove her under the desk, or jump up and down on her head or , well if it came down to it, he Could kill her, but I hope not.

I had to go back to the first strip and start over, because people were referencing mutations I had missed. Turns out, I’d first started reading from Jan 1, 2010, so missed all of 2009’s stuff. It’s a really interesting saga when you go through over two years reading in one sitting. (I’d stopped after the rereading the end of the Al and Gustine saga) Aaron, you never cease to amaze or surprise with your talent for plot twists.

Okay…going out on a limb to say what I think is coming…If this computer was programed by a group whose sole purpose is profit, all we (Linda? Holly?) need to do is demand to know where the profit is in the current tactic. The computer will switch allegiance from Flask to whoever asks. But will it happen in time?
