I guess it’s The Six Beards of Henry VIII.

I wouldn’t want to meet anybody who’d hang that in their home.

Enlarged (use browser zoom to enlarge more) available from here (last View All Sizes choice).Death of Leonardo da Vinci is described in its current-location page (source of the title image) and in a short National Geographic comment in its webpage devoted to facts about Leonardo da Vinci. This also says, in its description of the painting, historically, Francis I of France wasn’t at his side when he died. The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection.Third of the 10 works by this artist that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

The guy in the black outfit let him “take cuts” and now he won’t leave.

The guy on the right pointing toward the couple is saying, “Does NO ONE find this odd? I had NO idea they were even gay! Why am I always the last to know?”

I’m honestly surprised that so many readers pursued the homosexual twist on the painting to offer captions that are not even very clever.

Until I saw the enlarged version, I thought King Henry’s toes were peeking out of his stockings. Turns out he’s wearing fluffy pink slippers.

I didn’t notice the footwear until the preceding comment. Not fuzzy pink but I guess the fashion was to match sleeves with slippers. Not only does the big guy match but the younger person also has a sleeve/slipper duet.

Probably a good thing the relationship wasn’t serious, codedaddy. Leonardo might have lost his head.

As soon as I saw the enlargement I wondered about the footwear (but then I make my own early period footwear). I don’t remember seeing any with separate toes; I would want to consult with my former teacher. Hand made footwear is very comfortable but I would not want toes portruding.

Actually, Leonardo died in France, supposedly held in the arms of Francis I, King of France, not Henry VIII.
