I’ve never been a racer, but I have gone for long distances; the furthest I’ve gone in one day was 190 km.

Gawd this brought back memories. This WAS my first orignized bike ride. 2001 MS ride, 75 miles. 46 year old male and I was passed by everyone just like Wally.

The first race I ever entered I started at the back because I didn’t want to cause any problems. Started passing the women and children, then some older kids; caught my son at the bottom of the last hill, told him the finish line was at the top. No one else was there and I didn’t know where I had finished until the awards were presented. DANG!!! I WON!!!!. Never raced again; just tell people I retired undefeated.

Well, when you consider that Wally probably only rides a bike about once a month and then for a few miles only, he should have expected to be slow and be passed by everyone else in a race!

What makes this even funnier is that we were talking about situations like this last night at a family gathering. (OMG, I’m getting passed by someone who’s 8 1/2 months pregnant and someone with one leg stories.)

Just remember, no matter how slow you think you are in a race, you are still lapping the guy on the couch.

I could never do as Wally on bike riding. Now if 30-40 years younger have no problem.
