Reminds me of a strip from the Vietnam era: Nixon, who had said he could see the light at the end of the tunnel, was at the junction of several tunnels with a bulb burning there. Herblock maybe? (Turning corners, lights at ends of tunnels, death throwes….. different terminology for the same attempt at placation.)

There is ONE difference. At least we have a firm withdrawal date for Afghanistan, 2014.
Yes, I know….not nearly soon enough, I agree. If it had been up to me, we would have pulled out as soon as Bin Laden bit the dust.
But for all that, it’s still better than the open-ended poilcy we pursued in ’Nam for far, far too long.
