Yesterday’s “Doonesbury” was, I admit a little too graphic to be put in the Comics Section. But I remember, as a kid, things like that went right over my head. My parents used to take me to movies with sexual themes (not actual sex, remember, this was back in the 40s) that didn’t make sense to me until years later, when I remembered the plots. But I suppose young kids nowadays are mor tuned in to these things.
A3G and Mary are moving along at their usual snail pace. Judge, Mandrake, Mark Trail, and Phantom are showing good action and plot development and Rex is just kinda hanging in there. But none of them is near as boring as Alley Oop.

MARK TRAIL: you’re surrounded by a dog trainer, a nature journalist, a blind dog, an effeminate documentary director, and two camera men! You’d better come out with your hands up!FUNKY: Pat Summitt is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball history of either a men’s or women’s team in any division. I’m rooting for the Missouri Tigers and St Louis Billikens in the NCAA tourney. They both have games today.I’ll only be reviewing Mark and Funk this morning as I’ve found myself very busy today. I just went back and read the “Doonsbury” strips for this week, and I can see why the controversy. It’s nothing new for Trudeaux, of course. The things that disturbed me were the comments.
I usually avoid this particular subject just because of the passions on both sides, but the comments on this strip were among the most hateful, bile spewing vitriol I’ve ever seen, on BOTH sides. There was one comment that tried to calm things down a bit by asking others to “agree to disagree and move on to the next issue”, but for the most part people took the opportunity to rant and rave. Mind you, not in favor of their point of view, but by throwing acid at anyone who disagrees, especially politicians.
I don’t need this when I’m on my ‘toon tour. I’m looking for entertainment, not nastiness. This kind of passion belongs on an editorial page, not the comics page.
