All silliness aside (see above^), there is a tipping point beyond which the environment will not be able to recover from our mindless consumption culture. There’s a great need for a return to a more basic mode of consumption, healthy whole unprocessed foods, replenishable energy sources, protection of our air and water, real urban planning, compassionate sharing, etc, etc. In other words, a return to sanity. Sometimes I think we’ve already gone too far.
Clark Kent: Well, you finally got on right in principle, but are way off on figures. The “carrying capacity” of the earth is around five billion and the US around 150 million. Anything above that is stealing from the future and each other, and will eventually collapse with the whole world experiencing the conditions like the eastern Saheel is now, and no “outside” to help.
Amazing how a simple, accurate cartoon, can display a simple fact long known, especially to the people who live in the region, and set off a diatribe, started by an idiot comment.
Since my town was essentially wrecked by the flood 10 days ago, I think it’s safe to say while the essence of the cartoon is correct, unfortunately a lot of the debris isn’t “garbage”; it’s material that in the normal order of things would never have gotten into that damn river.

Is this the day the “Oceans stopped rising”?

This is the day the oceans get more viscous. Tsunamis thicken up water too.

Who made you the one to decide how many people should be on the planet.

When the oceans start to smell, we’d better have another planet to go to. The current level of NASA funding offers no hope.
