Y’know, I think Lucy’s just raised a really good point.

Tea Partyers want to take a chainsaw to Social Security and Medicare, but the Pentagon’s offering half a million bucks for a way to send people to Alpha Centauri.

I bet the winner will be somebody from who suggests building a REALLY big cannon…

Sometimes you have totake the time to answer those questions, even when you don’t like the payoff.

If last night’s dismal performance by Jeter is an indicator, Her rocket would have a 1 in 15,000 chance of launching. But 2nd place is OK.. Is it 3,000 miles back to the minors?Space would be better conquered by Boston. Big Papi led three homers in a row. The crowd went out of orbit.

Jack. Tea-ers are so far right of center they are almost playing left field. Both extremes end in tyranny.

Lew: give my GR MI guy a break. He carried you guys on his shoulder a long time while A-rod got all the press. If he’s hit the steroids like some, he’d still able to launch a few shots at the nearest star.

If Danae figures it out, perhaps she could take Casey Anthony with her.

Meanwhile, someone not invited will solve the problem and make trillions, at least.

That which gets funded, gets studied.

There is not practical use to sailing west to get to India! Or so most of the crowned heads told Cristobal Columbo.

Great launch of Atlantis this day. Sad ending to an era. Just shows what big government did. Now it is up to private enterprise.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Danae is the victim of a big school conspiracy. The teacher and the boy set up this contest, and the million bucks is in rewards only redeemable for school. (some teachers make play money to use for reward earnings). This way, Danae does a science project instead of finding loopholes to it, and is none the wiser until school starts and she learns that her Faster Than Light (FTL) project was a Summer Science project for school.

Is there an award being offered for making cold fusion work? At least that would have immediate, practical applications! (And they used a fusion reactor to get to Jupiter back in 2001…)

Nice call, gaunt. I’d add that she’s doing what big money has been forever, asking for welfare for the rich. The money would never go to real research once she got it. Her. co. would vote her a bonus and claim we had invested in a Ponzi scheme and tough luck on the returns cause the ones on top got there first.Jack: I think you may be using what killed your icon.

Why? If you know what you’re looking for, you’re not really exploring. Quit seeking, quit finding.

Justice, no. Big government did not do that. The idea that we should have a small government is what cancelled the maned flight programs. I remember when the United States was a great power and did great things….Evidently there isn’t enough money anywhere in this country now to be the leader in innovative technology. Of course some would have you believe that all government investment in new technologies (like the internet!) is wrong…

Sorry, Zefram Cochrane hasn’t been born yet, and the first warp flight won’t take place until 2063.
