Easy earned money: Send Calvin to bed early because of nothing, study whole night for the exam and than make an angry face and demand more money… What a pity I never had a job as a baby-sitter. Only my own boys, and nobody pays me for that!

Tineli it’s not as easily earned as you might think. When I was a kid, all my siblings and I babysat (we were very close in age - when the phone rang, they’d just go down the line of all six of us to see who was available.)

Anyway, babysitting is pretty demanding, especially with a bratty kid. I had other jobs as a teenager as well, but I think the most stressful as babysitting.

And now that my own kids are pretty teenagers, I know a thing or two about taking care of your own. It’s totally different.

I think Rosalyn is playing them. She could have a rather easy time of it if she let Calvin watch TV until his parents came home. If she let him watch some horror movies she could probably even keep him in bed before that by talking about the monsters under the bed and how they eat kids who set foot on the floor. Instead she probably needs the money rather badly, so she demands things she knows Calvin isn’t going to give for maximum trouble and therefore maximum pay. She probably doesn’t even have a test tomorrow.

But think of Rosalyn’s distress while Calvin had control of her study notes. She should be paid extra for her mental anguish and suffering.

I’m thinking too that even with Susan001’s probably accurate timetable, were I in Rosalyn’s spot it might take me quite a while to settle down emotionally to the point where I could study in peace. After all, there would be no guarantees the little brat wouldn’t sneak out and try something else later!

I did some babysitting for a while for two kids like Calvin in temperament. Wonderful kids, but you had no hope of studying or anything else on your own quiet time - you had to devote yourself to them. Maybe that’s the lesson that Rosalyn needs to learn (and eventually does, if she actually plays Calvinball with its inventor).

Roselyn does have a good racket going In another strip where she had to watch Calvin she even demanded a $5 advance on the next time while getting paid

Extortion the key to quality child care.

A $5 advance!!! It should be more like a $10,000 retainer. That would be one way to pay for law school!!!

She’s getting well deserved combat pay. Hard to concentrate on homework when one is that angry.

Love Dad’s expression as he grudgingly opens his wallet. He knows that answer to his own question.

Calvin is going to be a prosperous and actualized man because his imagination and inspiration was never inhibited. I’m sure by the time he is an adult, he will have figured out the lesson of consequences.

My daughter was babysitting once. She and the kids heard a noise outside and freaked. She called me, and I had to drive over and search around the outside of the house with a flashlight. I’m lucky one of the neighbors didn’t call the cops. It probably was a raccoon or some other varmint.

Roz made a fatal assumption here: that Calvin wouldn’t, at least this time, do anything to whatever she had in her possession. If she really needed to study, she should have locked Calvin away, or, better yet, showed up with the pizza to begin with to pre-empt him and plopped him down in front of the tv with the pizza. On the other hand, the tiger is always making smarty pants suggestions….

You losers do realize this is a comic don’t you? A 15 year old comic at that, funny, but a comic all the same, as in made up, imaginary, not real people, same as all the other comics you think are real life.

Sounds like the real Loser is the person who can’t join in the fun of experiencing or re experiencing a well drawn and well plotted comic strip no matter how old it is.

Limited intelligence and social interaction skills would make one assume that people posting comments think the strips are real but anyone who made it past third grade would know that posted comments are just a way for fans to come together and share an enjoyable time .

Most of us grew up following Calvin’s antics day to day and even though we know hes not real all of us probably know a cousin, neighbor or brother who came close to being the real thing so it makes us laugh to remember.

lets enjoy the strip and keep the Snark in the cage

littledutchboy: I’d be more inclined to believe Calvin was on his way to becoming ‘prosperous and actualized’ if he negotiated a cut of the extra babysitting fee in return for a quiet, study-friendly night. If they’re going to deal with each other regularly, games theory says a cooperative deal works better than a zero-sum approach.

Rosalyn brought it all on herself. She’s a truly lousy, self centered babysitter, and she should know better by now how to get results with Calvin. She was totally at fault here from the second she walked in. She doesn’t deserve a cent.

Stop worrying about Calvin years down the road. He’s eternally 6 years old!

Enjoy the hijinx and quit thinking like you’re a bunch of 80 year old prison guards.

Roz deserves every cent she can get, MrsLukeSkywalker - after all, she’s the only one willing to baby-sit Calvin. That puts her in the driver’s seat. She deserves a premium over normal rates. Call it “Calvin Pay”.
