Isn’t it strange….. how did she know…. I wish mom wouldn’t ask Calvin to bathe… its such a waste of time and energy and then you need to take extra effort to get stinky again.

My 37 year old son came over today with his sons, 2.5 and 4.5 I call the weasels. He reminded me of how much he enjoyed being bathed as a child . We hugged. That’s as good as it gets.

My 3 year old granddaughter is just now getting better with the warmer water. She’ll now ask to have her bathwater warmer to start with. Before I used to have to get her out three or four times to add more hot water because before long she’d be shivering.

I love Calvin in 3 panel. Look at the expression on his face. He thoroughly agrees with his mother. Been there done that !

If the water was not scaling hot he would not need to throw a tantrum until it is ‘perfect’

Calvin, as any maladjusted child (and what child is not maladjusted?) will complain just as a matter of routine.

It is only good the law doesn´t allow infanticide anymore….

In the words of Rodney Carrington: “You love them so much you feel like wringing their little necks…”

What’s the point in taking a bath… He’ll just get dirty again. For that matter, why bother to feed kids? They just get hungry again in a few hours. There’s no end to it, I tell ya…

As Lonewolf has stated Calvin’s book is always open, and Mom’s read it over and over.

He’s a broken record that keeps playing the same tune, and Mom’s got his number down.

watcha: You missed the point. If it had been “perfect” he would have thrown a tantrum anyway. And then the water would have been too cold, and he’d have thrown another one. Mom’s just one step ahead of his game.

Contrary to the title of the old ‘50’s TV show, MOTHER Knows Best!

It is amazing how a mother’s quotient for love outstrips the child’s quotient for aggravation.

Are some of you awake up there?

    What child isn’t maladjusted?

Was that really a serious question? You must not know any of the vast throngs that have had good parents and good training.

    When was infanticide legal?

What I just said above notwithstanding, you’d be surprised. Consider the following from Yuni’s Latin Quotes (this one is obviously modern, but it reflects some ancient practices):

Antiquis temporibus, nati tibi similes in rupibus ventosissimis exponebantur ad necem - In the good old days, children like you were left to perish on windswept crags!

Throw that at the intelligent but unruly little Calvins in your lives!

    Mothers know best?

Yes, about being mothers. But the social liberals lost that argument long ago (they just refuse to admit it): everyone does best when the father is the real head of the household and is respected for his brand of love and wisdom. I wish I’d had that. So, had my mother only realized it then, did she - but it’s hard to see it when the father completely abandons his family.

We kids loved taking long, warm baths at my grandparents place in the city—they had a real bathtub with hot running water! ~At home, we used hand pumps and galvanized wash tubs.

Johanan Rakkav, my posting “MOTHER(singular) Knows Best”, is a play on the name of an old television show titled “Father Knows Best”. It was not meant to be a deep philosophical discussion point.

Lighten up, this is only a comic strip.

It’s like cooking a frog. The trick is to put the frog in cool water and then slowly heat it up until he’s poached! The frog doesn’t think to hop out because the change in temp is gradual.

But I will concede that in spite of a shoddy, under-funded educational system and a child-age population composed mainly of lazy, brain-dead, video-junkies raised by self-absorbed, absentee parents, that most human children still retain a basic autonomic nervous system slightly more advanced than a frog.

Some days I think that slight evolutionary advantages like that are the only thing holding humanity back from the brink of extinction.

I think the hose idea is perfect – then the water won’t be too hot – especially if he lives where I do this time of the year.

Wow! Hose him down. That’s sure not the kind of “sensitivity” you’re always preaching about! I guess the “sensitivity” and “it’s only a comic” sermons only apply to everyone else but the preachers!

He’s so cute. Kids are supposed to resist baths and bedtime. If he didn’t, what would be funny about this? Why do child haters even read this?

Mrsluke, your comment makes no sense whatsoever. My “it’s only a comic” comment was a single sentence, not a “sermon”. If your statement was not directed at me you should state specifically who it was addressed at. Otherwise, shotgun statements with a negative context not specifically addressed to specific posters will be seen for what they are - driveby statements from trollers trying to stir up trouble.
