Diversionary bulkheads. Thick walls that angle towards the highest clearance span of the bridge so that any out of control vessel would be forced under that span. I realize that those huge container ships have a lot of momentum. I didn’t say it would stop them, just nudge them away from the bridge supports. Also, I wonder why they didn’t drop anchor as soon as they could. This may have been addressed but I haven’t read it. Just wondering if that would have done any good, at least slowing the ship down.
