“The house to herself” would have been a better answer.

Somehow the phrase “Absence makes the heart grow fonder” doesn’t apply to Opal…

There was an elderly woman who worked at a local convenience store for years and years, well into her 90s. She said she continued working so she could get away from her clingy husband for a time every day. Heck of a way to spend your “golden years”.

I was a docent at our local museum for many years, and one morning I was getting ready for an upcoming tour, when one of the other docents stormed in, muttering under her breath and shaking her head. I asked what was wrong, and she slammed her keys and purse into her locker, and said, with a HUGE exasperated sigh: “I never realized how little my husband and I have in common until he retired!”

The poor man has been thoroughly brainwashed. What they don’t realize is that if you turn your husband into an idiot, you are then doomed to live with an idiot.

We both, as couples, need some private or quiet time. I don’t object, and in fact encourage it. Stuck together all day, everyday, will have create conflicts. We encourage each other to get out and do something without having to do it together all the time.

Amen. After almost 40 years of hubby being out to sea or traveling for his company most of the time, he retired suddenly. Having him home 24/7 nearly wrecked our marriage so he now has a wood shop out back and he spends most of his day out there, thank you Lord.

My second wife did not like my IT consulting business run out of our house. She was an old-school believer that a man’s place is in the office. :)

When someone comes to visit you, you might thank them for blessing you with their presence. Earl is blessing Opal with his absence.
