Maybe the moles should get Montague a thinking cap like Zaphod had in Hitchhiker’s Guide. As long as they can find plenty of lemons to power it!

Written by Henry Olusegun and Adeola Samuel, performed by Seal: Kiss From a Rose

There used to be a raccoon dumpster by the wild land green

Until a moleish army was suddenly seen

What ensued was a battle, victory remains to be seen

And did you know that Montague,

He has an agenda that makes sense to the few and far between!

    …….

We would like to save the roses and greens

Ooh, the more the moles dig

The greater the damage is seen

    Tommy and Goldie do research

To see if a resolution can be

We hope the field is not doomed,

The roses can bloom once again!

    …….

Baba Mouse is doing her part,

    She knows what to do,

    Keeping the kits safe

    From what might ensue!

    …….

    There is so much confusion

    We don’t understand,

The whys and the wherefores of Montague’s plan,

But when all is said and done,

We’re sure of the outcome, and the battle is going to be won!

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

At the You Call That a Pyramid

Lupinium: Yes, we must be extra careful. So I’ll going in first.

    Rushes down the corridor

    Iggy: That’s careful?

    Beatrixia: For Lupin, yes.

Crash is heard down the hall

    Lupinium: I’m okay!

Iggy: Looks like another roomful of gold and gems. Any damage?

Beatrixia: No, they all look intact.

Violet-Ifa: I’ll bet the gems were created by Fe-Anaro. His gemstones are indestructible by ordinary means.

    Ora Z: I’ll find out.

    Sometime Later

Ora Z: The gems are indestructible, but the settings they’re in aren’t.

Wally: That’s alright. The Artisans can find a use for them.

Bea: Let’s look for secret rooms. I have a feeling there’s a real treasure here.

Vi: Yes! There’s a room behind the gold room!

Iron Glove: I can have that secret door open in no time!

    Bea: Have at it!

Iggy: Look! There are hieroglyphs that look like a map. There’s an arrow with some words on it.

Vi: Yes. It says, "You Are Here.* The scroll room is A17, and it appears there’s some kind of pantry nearby.

    Ora Z: (Whispers)

Vi: Yes, down the corridor on the right.

There used to be a mole, who seemed gentle and kind, utiiilll he met- A lawn mower, on the backside of his head! Annnd now he’s just, all ovveeer the place, no rhyme and no pace! Although we know, he is a mole- His eyes can’t see, further- than the tip, of his nooose! Heeeeey there! I can hear the hiss of a mole, yeah! Strange though it seems, yeah! Now those moles might meet doom, from a large vacuum, on the ground! La La La La Laaaaa La La Laaaaa!

Okay: choosing “Kiss From a Rose” as an anthem deserves a stern rebuttal as it is sacrilege against the best genre of that part of the ’90s alternative/college rock with its grunge genre along with some others like post punk, ska, etc…. Some better options for 1994:

Anything by the songs from the following bands: The Offspring (Come Out and Play), Closer (NIN/ Nine Inch Nails), Zombie (The Cranberries), Loser (Beck), Basket Case (Green Day), Black Hole Sun (Soundgarten), Interstate Love Song (STP/Stone Temple Pilots). There are many others like REM and Pearl Jam but they were really going too commercial IMHO by ’94.

The Offspring were my faves from the list since as a biochem grad student at the U of Alabama/Tuscaloosa it was cool to hear that a bunch of biochem, microbiology and pre-med guys made a successful alt rock band and nailed the charts as well as finishing their degrees. Google their background, you will find PhD’s, doctors and surgeons still rocking today in their respective fields and occasionally on the stage. You do not have to be an awkward English major like Rivers Cuomo of Weezer to hit the rock charts; you can be a life science geek as well:) No offense to Weezer, loved “Buddy Holly” and they are a great cover band on Jimmy Kimmel! ……..

So who was your favorite artist of 1994? I think Baba Mouse might approve of my list being an alternative rock fan of the early ’90s, what say you?

Baby, I compare you too. A bop on the head on the lawn, Ooh, the more my head gets bonked, stranger things I feel, yeah And now that my sanity’s in doomI might hit my head every day…

    It’s a very ancient saying,

But a true and honest thought,

That if you become a seeker,

Just listen and you’ll be taught.

As a searcher she’s been learning

(And she’s not the type to boast)

    But Goldie’s become an expert,

On why the fields are toast…

    Getting to know moles!

Getting to know them, getting to know all about them.

Getting the story, getting to hope for more tea.

Getting to know them, putting it her way,

    But nicely,

    The King’s precisely,

    Justly angry.

    Getting to know more,

    Getting to hear sweet honesty

    When she is with them,

Getting to know what they say

    Haven’t you noticed

    Suddenly life’s bright and breezy

Because of all the beautiful and new

    Things we’re learning about moles

    Day by day.

Baby, feels like a kiss on the nose by a stray.

    - Richard Rodgers / Oscar Hammerstein II – Getting To Know You

I used to play that song ALL the time! I’d record it on a blank cassette tape every time it came on the radio so that I’d have an entire tape of it… so I wouldn’t have to stop and rewind it! I am sure this somewhat dates me. :)

    No.

    No, no, no, no, no.

    .

You could not get away from that song back then. I liked the movie, and I’m generally a fan of Seal, but I got sick of that song super quick.

    .

Oh well. At least it’s not that dumb Aerosmith song from that stupid asteroid movie. I heard that one playing on three radio stations at the same time once.
