saw mccarthy on tv, didn’t know he was that tall, then i realized he was standing, not kneeling, for a change.

From an independent’s viewpoint: There WAS an option to help heal the House and show the nation how it has been done in the past to make things work. It was the honorable option which put nation before party but it was sacrificed in favor of having a spectacle. So, BOTH parties screwed up and got us to the mess that currently exists. It would have been so easy morally to have members of both parties rally around a moderate who has a history of working with both parties. To have the best healing for the nation it should have been a Republican moderate because they do have the majority and because that party needs much more healing given the level of damage that the reactionaries have done to it and to the nation. (Reactionary parasites who supported Hitler were mostly in the Republican party during early WWII, after WWII reactionaries mostly moved to the Democratic Party but thanks to the moral choice of backing Civil Rights they left then began infesting the Republican party again. Basically, reactionaries parasitize a political party using pretty much the same playbook that the Nazis used in 1930s German, right down to trying to pass themselves off as some other flavor of conservative when they are much more extreme than that.)

Interestingly enough MOST Republican voters in polls did NOT support McCarthy in MANY polls. The numbers opposing him and just not paying attention enough to care were pretty equal, but most did not support him. Meanwhile, most Democrats want a functional House. So, neither party did what their own voters want.

Just replace the names with Democrat and Republican, and in place of the Prince are we, the citizens:

According to Punchbowl News founder John Bresnahan, the literal floor fight in the House late Friday night that saw Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) hauled away after he tried to attack Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), was precipitated by a goof in voting by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on the 14th ballot.

You get what you vote for.

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo wondered “how long” Rep. Kevin McCarthy will be Speaker of the House after agreeing to allow any single member to bring a motion to vacate the chair. “One of the most stunning changes in the rules that you all will adopt this week is the motion to vacate,” Bartiromo told Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) on Sunday. “One member to call a vote to motion to vacate Kevin McCarthy. So, how long does he have? Is there still a chance that you’d like to be Speaker?”

He may be a “Speaker Stopgap”. I think it’s significant that they insisted on the one Congressman call for a new speaker vote concession. They may have put him in while they think about someone better.

No big deal here. Just another fake crisis dreamed up by the Dems. Their pick lost every vote.

I might point out that the minority party ALWAYS loses the vote. That’s how voting works. Duh. Jeffries maintained his dignity through the whole mess but McCarthy, who had none to start with, actually came out of it with negative dignity and managed to join the lowest of the low on the rungs of humanity.

GOP throws a tantrum, as “my Kevin” becomes their leader and our problem…

I’m guessing he’s hoping the Justice Department will be indicting some of those he had to give concessions to, and thus off the hook.

I had a beautiful vision during the 14th ballot. The 20 rebels, not stopping to do the math, all vote Present. That lowers the threshold to 208. But those votes are lost to McCarthy. So he scores his usual 200 and Jeffries scores his usual 212.
