Cassie is still growing. Yesterday Tom T mentioned it looked like Cassie kept getting fatter. JJ even posted a simple reply, “I noticed that, too” which is pretty tongue in cheek.
I went to a party at a house with two shy cats. When they saw me, they, at separate times, ran away, then stopped to look before they got completely out of sight. When they saw I wasn’t chasing after them, I passed the test, and they walked back to let me get closer. This has happened at least one other time with another cat. Interesting consistent behavior.
Our cat does the same thing. He hides from anyone that comes to visit, unless they are there more than one day. then he will come out and check them out and MIGHT let them pet him.
Cassie & Murray should have brought seafood; it worked for Gene, Mary Lou and Meg. Ludwig got close to Meg during their last visit because she smelled like shrimp.
A lot of cats are like that, apparently. Ours wasn’t. She would sit up at the top of the stairs looking down in judgement at the visitors coming up those stairs wondering if they were acceptable.
She only went into hiding once, when we turned on the newly-installed ceiling fan.
Our cats were of two types — ones who hide when company comes, and ones who want to be in the thick of things, share our meal, distract conversations, and cover us with fur. I rather prefer the hiders.
My Hazel (avatar) knows the front camera alert tone on my phone and will run and hide if she hears it go off. She is terrified of any stranger. Heck, she runs and hides if one of us wears shoes or hats indoors. Or if we have something in our hand that isn’t food. Pretty sure she was feral as a kitten and never received human interaction until someone took the litter to the shelter. Funny thing is, when we looked at the kittens, my husband always picks out a kitten based on if they will allow him to hold them like a baby and rub their belly. She was the only one who allowed it even though she didn’t want much to do with anyone and still adores belly rubs to this day.
I have two cats, one who is rarely seen by anyone (even those who live in the house!) but me. And one who is the life of the party. Stranger comes by, he meets them at the door, purring. Coming by to stay the night? if you don’t close the door you will have a bed companion. Having dinner with us? He’ll be by to sit on your lap.
I used to have 3 cats. I had a friend who visited me fairly often for years. I once mentioned my 3 cats, and he said I only had one. Then I realized only one had consistently come out to see him. The other two hid. Eventually a second cat came out. Cats are strange that way. He was cat-friendly, so I have no idea why they were like this with him.

We had kitties that were terrified of everyone but us. My sisters called them our “imaginary cats.” :D

Our cats like to ply hide and seek too. Especially when the cat carrier comes out. Many Vet appointments have been rescheduled.

Cassie painted her fingernails in the car after they left A&J

Pssh, just knock on our door and you will find out we have a dog. Come in side and she will lick your face off if you let her.

Per Cassie and Murray’s leaving – I have many people in my life whose stories end with “And I never saw them again.”

…And that’s when Murray crashed head-on into a semi…

I don’t know if I should mention this, but here goes anyway.
The timing of Cassie and Murray’s visit was poignant for me. My best friend passed of lymphoma on Tuesday of last week.

Our cat used to hide from visitors too. MY sister-in-law would visit for 5 days, and he would eventually come out and socialize.
