Well, this one took me a bit to figure out!

I can’t figure it out.

This is my interpretation (with help from, and thanks to, the other commenters, who eased my original confusion). Dad’s calmly reading the paper. Suddenly Lio goes by on his “ambulance” trike, with clay creatures sounding the “sirens”. Dad is confused as to why this happened. He relaxes again and crosses his legs. This action reveals that Gumby is stuck to his sandal, with Dad apparently having stepped on him.

Mark, why would you not just make the panels right-side-up? It’s the same amount of space that way and has the added benefit of no one having to crane their neck to read it if they’re not reading it on a smartphone or in newsprint.

Don’t worry, it’s Gumby; he’ll be okay. Eventually.
