Cole Porter was one of the few songwriters of his era who wrote both music and lyrics. Another was his friend Irving Berlin. The two men shared a private joke. Whenever a songwriting team – such as Ira and George Gershwin, Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers, or Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern — had a hit, Porter and Berlin would say to each other, “To think it took two people to write one song!”
Interesting pairs remembered by the above. Could be the subject of a university course. It would not surprise if it were not the thesis for a doctorate.
We had an election in the United States yesterday, in case you missed it. As I write this, I haven’t yet checked the results, but I can make one prediction about the results with absolute certainty: They aren’t going to shut anybody up.
Let’s take a break. Since a good deal of the problem is that we’ve blurred the line between politics and show business at a time in history when we were already taking show business more seriously than politics, let’s NOT take a step back. Let’s take a step all the way forward and go right past politics and all the way into show business and argue about that. After all, as Winston Churchill said, if you’re going through hell, keep going.

I’ve never heard of Fountains Of Wayne, but I still think it’s safe to say that they don’t rank with Lennon, McCartney, Elton or Bernie.
