I see Danae has found the answer to two-hour movies.

Considering all the season ending cliff hangers on TV this month, I don’t see a lot of instant gratification.

Remember writing your book report from the jacket cover? Oh, the things we miss when our brains are lazy.

I’m afraid that would mostly leave you with the commercial breaks.

Well, they turned the 1,100 page long “Les Miserables” into a 2 1/2 hour musical. I’m sure no details (aka “the boring parts”) were left out.

Wait until Danae discovers that the President’s Daily Briefing has become “CliffsNotes” with the boring parts redacted and her personal view of education validated. Next she’ll learn about Betsy DeVos and how public education should be privatized so that someone can make a profit, using Trump University as a model.

I used to skip past the boring parts when reading (i.e., descriptions). Now, I love them.

But when I was a kid, I loved reading plays, simply because it was almost all conversations. “And what is the use of a book, thought Alice, without pictures or conversations?”

Some times the only thing the movie has right is the character(s) name(s), sometimes not with the right character though.

The book is almost always much better than the movie.

As a child I read “Treasure Island” in an hour. Still prefer the book to the film.

Here’s a thought, Danae: only boring people get bored.

The reason most Books are so much better than the Movie is that a Movie can only cram about 1/3 of the average novel into a 2 hour movie. At best.

The Movie scriptwriter has to go through the book and decide what scenes Must be included to make a coherent story and which can be left out without doing too much Damage.

It’s mostly an Economic decision: It costs somewhere around $1,000,000 per Minute of screen time to film a movie. So, a 2 hour movie can cost as much as $120,000,000 to film. And, that’s only a Third of the Novel.

Plus, theaters make their Profit on sales of Popcorn, candy & Drinks. People just don’t buy much at Intermission on a 3 hour movie, so it pays better for the Theater to book a 90 Minute movie and show it twice.

Oh, and that 90 Minute Movie fits neatly into a 2 hour TV time slot when it leaves the Theater for TV.

Danae needs to be introduced to H.P. Lovecraft – she is a child of Yog-Sosoth!

The only movie I found better than the book was The Africa Queen. Of course, Huston, Bogart, and Hepburn can do that. I liked the Hornblower series (definitely better than movie attempts), so it isn’t the author. A few movies have been better than their short stories (To Have or To Have Not, for instance), but that is cheating. Besides, that was more Faulkner’s screenplay than Hemingway’s short story
