What the …? I wonder if they posted this to show how out of touch this is now, or if someone didn’t care to remove these kinds of comics. I know that a certain classic Nancy comic was removed due to its reference to a “wild man” who was dark-skinned a couple of years back.
Those who forget (or ban) the past are doomed to repeat it. Emotional discomfort is a great motivator to changing behavior. Sanitizing unpleasant content that is no longer acceptable dilutes the lessons that we have learned and minimizes the discomfort/pain experienced by those who were the targets of undesirable/objectionable behaviors and attitudes.
The proper reply to this is, “Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” How can you possibly question alternative lifestyles? That’s double-ungood wrong-think! You’d better work on controlling your mind, citizen!

I think this one probably worked better in 1960. For the most part (FARSIDE99’s reply aside) it’s pretty far out of place today.

I think it shows a bit of progress made in the last 60 years. It could be an educational moment.

See this is like watching Disney’s “The Song of the South”. We may not be perfect, but we are better than we used to be.

Nowadays, it’s the men who get slapped around. (Not sure if that’s any better, but what are you gonna do?)
