This is an amazing strip. They don’t directly say that Marigold lost. The whole story is told by her looking sad, Phoebe asking her if she heard back, Mari saying yes, and Phoebe comforting her.

I love it when comics tell stories like this with very little words.

Yeah, that’s how I felt about my various rejections. Except that one where it turned out the play was something I wouldn’t be caught dead in.

Oh yess…. this is EXACTLY how it feels.

Poor Marigold. She’s so lucky to have a friend like Phoebe.

This friendship is not one sided… On another note: It has been shown in past strips that Marigold will become lighter and float away if she becomes too happy and self impressed. Phoebe helps keep her grounded. So if she becomed depressed, will she become heavier and not be able to stand on those dainty legs?

Let me guess, you were accepted, but not in the role you wanted.

Knowing Marigold, she either didn’t get the part in the show, or she did get in as a bit player.

I can empathize. I got rejected a couple of weeks ago for a great part, via a formula postcard, no less

I guess I go about it differently. I audition the best I can, expect to NOT be accepted and then am ecstatic when I am. Disappointment kept to a minimum. HOWEVER, I do NOT make a living at acting/singing, just do it to have fun. I also have low self-esteem, so that could be part of it! LOL If I felt about myself as Marigold does, I would probably be as disappointed as well.

Except for the “serious” titles, it’s rare to see actual sadness portrayed in comic strips. I like that this strip makes the characters – if Marigold will forgive the expression – human.

Oh Dana!! That last panel is wrenching.

Poor Marigold! Thankfully she has a true friend to help her through. My heart aches for her.

I have a one word question: Understudy?

I would love to see a Unicorn some day.

Just not a sad one.

Interesting choice lying flat like that. When I’m depressed I curl up in a ball.
