I don’t know how to argue with that myself since I’ve never owned a dog.

Judging from old Farl’s “SiGHHH” reaction to Elly’s long speech, it appears that he understood every word she said.

Oh how are you gonna resist those sad eyes?

My furbaby loves the couch, especially in winter when it’s warmer than the floor.

Dogs understand us better than we understand dog

Our old dog wasn’t allowed on the couch. One day everyone else had left but I was in my room, and after a while I came out to find him on the couch. From the look of surprise on his face he apparently had not known I was home and when he saw him he slowly slunk off the couch and lay down on the floor.

I have a gazebo and my cat lives in it and he has free reign of all the furniture in it.

I remember this one from when it ran in the paper the first time. I cut it out for my friend. :)

Lynn’s Notes:

This one strip brought so many comments that I had to have help to answer the mail. It seems that most of us see our pets as part of the family.

And Farley got just what he wanted!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Nobody can lay a guilt trip on a human quite like a dog!

Knowing what the future holds for Farley, I wouldn’t begrudge him anything.

I miss Farley… too bad Lynn doesn’t pick up the pen again and show the kids with their own dogs, hopefully another furry one like Farley.

What self respecting dog would eat food named “BARFO BITS”!

My dog in Florida was deaf from birth, and while he couldn’t hear anything I said to him, he was an expert at reading my body language, facial expressions, and interpreting my moods.

I, obviously, couldn’t yell at him, if he did something wrong, but he understood The Look and The Point !

If I really wanted to punish him, I’d turn my back on him and ignore him. He hated that !

BTW I learned The Look and The Point when my father, directed at me or my brother for some misdeed.

My kids ( and grand kids ) have been recipients of it, on occasion.

I remember seeing a video once about a dog who actually learned new words by itself. Given a set of three things, two of which it already knew the words for (not “names” because dogs don’t have the concept of what a name is), and told a word it didn’t know, it figured out that that word meant the new thing. And it remembered it later. The dog reputedly had a vocabulary of somewhere over a hundred words.

And there’s Chaser, who knows over a thousand words. As Sarcastic as I may be, I have always maintained that some dogs were the best people I ever knew, and dear friends…..
