A hammer to the head doesn’t sound fun, especially if it took two or more whacks. I was very apprehensive when I was told I would get spinal anesthesia for my hip surgery. The anesthesiologist had me sit up on the gurney, then gave me two surface shots to numb me for the real shot to the spine. I felt a sharp but very brief pain, then he said to lay back down. That was the last remember until I awoke in recovery. That tenth-of-a-second flash of pain was the only pain I felt during the whole operation. Until my first attempt to go potty-poo, that is. That must be close to what women feel during childbirth.
