It’s sort of like balloons. A balloon’s surface gets pricked at a single point and it loses cohesion. The rubber skin retracts quickly to its lowest energy state. I watched a lot of slow motion videos on the internet with bubbles and balloons bursting just because it felt familiar and right. I can’t say for sure, but it seems a lot like what I’m seeing. It fits all the observational data. I’m still not sure of the specifics of the mechanisms involved, but this seems to be how they work. It’s a decent enough theory, anyway. Once you stop streaming the lies you tell yourself, the lies you encounter can no longer be maintained in their absence. I’ve ruled out that I emit a subsonic wave that invokes flatulence, at any rate.

The French enjoy a good fartiste. The woman with the fan could make a living if her circumstances were reduced to the level of those she scorns.
