I was in grade school when the change added under God. Eisenhower was president. I was about 7, had to re-learn it.. Same year the 1st. polio shots came out. They gave shots to 2nd. grade kids first, all over. IDK why.

It was the National Anthem btw, not the Pledge of Allegiance. As a secular Buddhist I don’t say “under God” when reciting the pledge because I have greater respect for the Constitution, Amendment One, than many “patriots” who wear their prayers on their sleeves lik the hypocrites Jesus condemned.

When I hear “God Bless America”, I want to say, “may America become worthy of God’s blessing”.

Hipp, When I hear “God Bless America” I ask, “what about the rest of the earth?”
