They’re looking at it wrong. They should be reporting that a twenty year study showed Canada Goose levels were finally rebounding after dropping below 10% of normal.
The Canada poops-a-lot-Goose (Branta canadensis) is the bane of any open green field in its migration path. They can live as long as 24 years… seems longer somehow.
Yeah, well, your Kansas may have it bad. But I have a whole flock of the filthy and noisy beasts roosting in the high school athletic field across the street from me. Nasty honkers! Do not feed the overgrown pigeons!
Why are they Canada geese wintering in Kansas, when they could be Kansan geese summering in Canada? Shouldn’t we put America first? I heard that somewhere…
There is a large business campus with several acres of lawns near my home. For the last several years they’ve ‘hired’ someone with large dogs to walk them, off leash, about sunrise every morning from spring through fall. This has significantly reduced their problems.
Canada geese are protected by federal and state laws. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act (16USC 703-711) protects Canada geese, their nest and eggs. Federal and state laws prohibit capturing or killing Canada geese outside of legal hunting seasons without a permit. Non-lethal control activities such as harassment with pyrotechnics or other sound making devices, chasing with dogs, visual deterrents and use of approved chemical repellents are all allowed year around as long as there is no direct contact with geese and that do not result in harm to geese, goslings, eggs, or nest. Non-lethal control activities such as these do not require state or federal permits.Do not feed or allow feeding of geese or other waterfowl on your property
Allow hunting of geese on your property if possible during open goose seasons
Remove domestic waterfowl from the area
Modify landscape to deter goose use of site
Exclusion and barriers (fencing or other physical barriers)

Quite frankly my dear Watson, they are simply practicing a very popularized sport. Wouldn’t you say?

The Regular Show had an entire thing about geese taking over a pond.
They had to team up with the ducks to get rid of them.
Swans work, though. Swans can chase off the geese.
I know a place that was using coyote decoys, and moving them every couple of days, to keep geese away from their pond.

Those geese look like they’re eyeing that pastry hungrily, but rest easy, they’re just looking for a patch of grass they can overpopulate.

For Canadians, these geese have a very bad attitude and can be extremely aggressive, noisy, and all-round crappy, ‘Snow Birds’ !
