plants do not absorb all incoming sunlight (due to reflection, respiration requirements of photosynthesis and the need for optimal solar radiation levels) and do not convert all harvested energy into biomass, which results in an overall photosynthetic efficiency of 3 to 6% of total solar radiation.
As of December 2014, the world record for solar cell efficiency at 46% was achieved by using multi-junction concentrator solar cells, developed from collaboration efforts of Soitec, CEA-Leti, France together with Fraunhofer ISE, Germany
I would really like to see a distributed renewable energy system become practical. It would not only fix the CO2 problem but we could probably do away with CommEd and NICOR and a lot of the oil producers.
Look at it this way: If we hoard just enough fossil fuel to evacuate to Mars, we can have a party warming up that planet to our heqrts’ content, and still need down jackets to survive.
Wondrous batteries are in the works. Lithium batteries that charge faster, won’t explode and have twice the power per volume should be available by mid 2017 or earlier. Aluminum batteries that charge faster, hold more power per unit volumne and can be reactivated by adding water are in the works and will hopefully be available in a year or two. The fossil carbon era is near its end. Using solar power to charge batteries for use in vehicles and housing is happening now. Solar panels keep getting better and c
Climate change has been known to be caused by humans for fifty years, and the RATE of current climate change has been matched in Earth’s history only during times of mass extinctions. And in mass extinctions, those at the top of the food chain go first. Never vote for a person (Trump, Pence, all Republican senators and most congressmen) who deny the consensus of science on such an important issue.
Don’t hold your breath folks. Less than half of the world’s nations have signed on, and some of them are probably iffy, including us if the Republicans win.
What to do with WV?How about stopping mountaintop mining?How about looking at making the state a REAL tourism/hunting/fishing destination?How about actually EDUCATING the people(and their politicians), so that they can emerge from the everlasting poverty of low expectations?
My electric company mails me a report every month saying I am using too much electricity compared to my neighbors. So how am I supposed to charge an electric car, if I buy one? Climate change is very real in Illinois, every four months. After they can TAX co2, what is next? Why not just give the government all your money so they won’t have to make up new reasons to TAX you? Global warming’s not happening, so change the name?

Over 80% of the world’s energy comes from fossil fuels. It is NOT going away anytime soon.

Trump’s “King Midas” Touch
{… a rhyme and an image …}
Several sectors of our nation are such
that a Donald Trump can happen: – - -
- – - Malaise becomes anger, so many folks clutch
a Destroyer with his tongue a-flappin’
that deftly applying his King Midas touch,
he’ll soon have his voters toe-tappin’.
