Uh, sorry for this, but Captain Trump, stole lieutenant Crunch’s uniform and left HIM back on the ship to take the “Captain Fall”?

Not enough life boats for everybody on the Titanic…The designers were just too cocky….Hey, it was unsinkable, right? Why would you need a life boat?

“Going down with his ship” simply means he’s the last one off or in the case of the Captain being at fault for the wreck, it’s better “to go down with his ship” as a hero rather than face a maritime court and disgrace.

The SS Costa Concordia under the command of Capt. Francesco Schettino, no doubt.

“Mansplaining.” Is that even a thing because it sounds totally made up by the media.

Mansplaining is mostly a matter of attitude. I recall a recent story about a man who had ‘been to Space Camp’ blathering on to a woman who was an astronaut from ISS.

When my spouse is driving, they obstinately refuse to cede right of way to reckless drivers infringing into our lane, declaring “I have the right of way!”

I respond, “Hope somebody explains that at our funerals.”

There’s no rule about the captain going down with his ship, but he’s not supposed to leave until he’s made sure that everyone else is safe, which often comes to the same thing.

    “Mansplaining”? Try “humansplaining”.

I doubt this was Wiley’s intention… but viewing this as a political metaphor, perhaps the ship is the S.S.Trump Campaign ?

Today’s equivalent can look to Captain Sullenberger making sure everyone was safely off of his plane in the Hudson MIracle before he got off the plane. Just did the right thing, not “mansplaining” required. Hmm, too bad the Titanic didn’t just hit birds!

If you read the International Regulations For The Prevention Of Collision At Sea AKA COLREGS, there is no mention of “right of way”. The US Inland Rules does use the phrase, ONCE, under very specific conditions. See Rule 18 for information on not impeding other vessels, and of course Rule 2, which basically says to follow the Rules unless you are about to hit something, at which time all the Rules go out the window so nothing gets hit. 8^)
