Really? Wiley should rename this strip as “what’s wrong with this picture”

First, when the serpent [the Bible doesn’t specifically say it was a snake] ‘spoke’, it was to the woman Eve only. Adam was not present.

Secondly, there was no “religion” of any sort at that point, so there was nothing to have a “religious debate” about.

And of course, the third thing is the cavemen wouldn’t even know what a religion was since none existed, so they would have no frame of reference to be concerned over getting involved in a debate.

And before the science debate gets started, yes…true students of the Bible realize that serpents have no vocal chords. Obviously it was someone else who was making the serpent appear to talk to the woman.

Adam, Eve and a snake. The first threesome. It didn’t work then and it still doesn’t.

Blah, blah, blah !!! RE: What’s WRONG with this picture???

The “First Bite” is not yet missing from an Apple; therefore, there could not yet be any on-lookers . . . sooo, the question really is: What are they doing just sitting there ??? . . . Contemplating ?? . . . What ? . . . You Know !!! . . .

Freewaydog, the pizza and the kegs must have run out….So I think you’re right! Eventually he ran into Eve, and the first thing he knows, she starts talking about how he should eat better, “Here, try this apple it’s good for you. That pizza will just make you fat…”…………..You know what? I wonder if anybody has ever put little slices of apple on a pizza? They put pineapple on ‘em, don’t they?..Seriously, I bet a little bit of apple on a pizza would be great! I wonder what kind of apple goes with pepperoni, ham and onions?

Wiley Miller, you have done it again, … opened a religious discussion that will elicit comments galore, some factual, others pure fiction. Congrats.

We had a religious speaker once at my dorm at college. He admitted that Cain “married” his sister, but because they were the first humans, their DNA was more elastic. Keep jumping through those hoops.

:DThe funny thing was, it’s all about metaphors. The debate was to seek knowledge or remain ignorant. Just wish I’d bought a t-shirt with the January 1, 2011 cartoon on it when I had the chance way back when. That’s still my favorite, because it catches the true spirit of religion plain and simple.

You loathe religion and ridicule belief. We get it. It’s not even clever; it’s just heavy-handed and tedious.

Time to give it a rest, Miller.

Randy_BTo be even more precise, an etiological myth, a way of explaining the origin of things in an easy to remember story rather than a pile of hard to remember data. .LiteralistsIt wasn’t written in modern English, but spent a few centuries being polished in oral tradition before being written (in a couple versions) in a language most of you can’t read, then translated in a succession of languages to what we have now. .“Serpent” not only included all reptiles, but dragons as well. (Pythons have vestigial hind legs.) We are only now in the process of shedding the grammatical masculine to include females. Even the same language is constantly changing; translations between languages is even harder.

This one is the reverse of a letter to the editor of our local paper extolling the writer’s views on how all the paleological findings could be woven into the Bible so that we could keep that 6,000 year old creation intact. I wasn’t sure if it was written tongue-in-cheek or not but it sounds something like my daughter’s mother-in-law’s views. Our grandson is crazy for dinosaurs and he can tell you more than you ever knew about the subject. That grandmother is sorely tried with all that science thrown at her. ;)

It is obvious that many of the critics of scripture here have based their conclusions on many of the misconceptions which are so prevalent, even among theists. Here are just two:

As I previously stated, mankind was created on the 6th day, which means that when Adam was created there were already plenty of other people(s) around. This explains the many races, and the breeding stock issue. Adam was just the first in the seedline that would produce the messiah.

Let’s go back to square one. The story of creation isn’t about the origins of the Earth, it is about the beginning of an “Age”, which began about six thousand years ago.

Look, I don’t give a hang whether you believe in God, or not. But cherry picking bad translations and bad interpretations to criticize is childish, and makes for a weak argument. You just demonstrate that you are willing to demean and denigrate something that you haven’t even taken the time to try to understand.

I think the Messiah came from the house of David – which could be from Adam or not – as for the literal interpitation, I am sure that the Messiah came from 2 of the 5 that were on Noah’s ark.
