I’m wondering today if there will be general agreement between the right and left that the super-rich are the enemy of working families?

^Well, I actually agree w/ Harley. There is a segment of our population that pays zippo in taxes. And, in my opinion, that segment is getting larger and larger. Those of us who are considered to be the “evil rich” are getting TIRED of this!

Take a look at the percentage of the federal tax bill that was paid by business in 1950 and look at it today. Look where this burden got shifted to.

Those poor fools should just work 500 times harder than they do now, then they too could swim in pools of money. And everyone else should stop envying the people at the top, because as we all know, pointing out a widening wage / wealth gap means you OBVIOUSLY envy the people at the top. Shame on you. Thou shalt not covet! Shame on you! *

People who don’t pay income taxes probably pay taxes in many other ways such as state and local sales tax and state and federal taxes on gasoline and alcohol. To avoid paying taxes entirely, “you couldn’t drink, you couldn’t smoke, you couldn’t drive a car, you couldn’t live in a house,” Williams said. “It’s hard to avoid them. We are very careful when we say 47 percent pay no federal income tax.” http://www.politifact.com/florida/statements/2010/apr/28/allen-west/west-says-nearly-half-americans-pay-no-taxes/

Look as an example at the Walton family who have if I recall correctly, five of the top ten wealthiest people in the U.S. If they were truly contributing to the poor who work for them, they would pay more than the minimum wage that they do. Their income would be less but the quality of life for their employees would be better.

They also could do more to bring jobs back to the U.S. than our government, by doing, as Papa Sam, buy “Made in the USA” whereas they now force domestic businesses out of the U.S. Notice also that their prices are raising as they gain more of a monopoly.

harley; the fools have underestimated their base. The bottom whatever% don’t pay taxes because they’re trying to buy food. If you cleared $1million you charged your customers too much & didn’t pay your workers enough. Fair tax is every penny over a million until the natioal debt is paid, including environmental clean up..

mnsmkd; “that segment is getting larger” because actually free & fair trade involves Chinese factories enforcing child & prison labor & environmental regulations. Or eliminating same, screw the future. My education is paid for, why subsidise the kids.

    et al, etc.

“You get to keep what you make, how is that not an increase in income? All taxes go away and you only pay a 23% inclusive sales tax at a retail level. I don’t know about you but I am not buying that $40,000 Volt but the evil rich will and pay the tax. I will buy used and not pay the tax.”

So a person who is barely struggling to live will be paying a 23% sales tax on everything because all of their income will go to buying necessities, which will all be taxed. A person higher up on the economic ladder doesn’t have to spend all of their money to get by, and will thus be paying far less of that tax.

“As to opposed to now when Obama apionties can not even get thier taxes straight? 1 person can cheat easier then the 2 different parties that is needed to cheat under the Fair tax.”

Geithner came from the Bush administration. It’s not just an Obama thing. I can bring up numerous examples of Republicans using C-Street as a tax-free apartment by claiming it’s a church. Tax cheaters aren’t a Democrat only thing, as much as you may think so, it’s a universal problem.

    Hammer To Fall lyrics

Here we stand or here we fall History won’t care at all Make the bed light the light Lady Mercy won’t be home tonight

We don’t waste no time at all Don’t hear the bell but you answer the call It comes to you as to us all We’re just waiting for the hammer to fall

Oh, ev’ry night and every day A little piece of me is falling away But lift your face the Western Way Build your muscles as your body decays

Toe your line and play their game Let the anaesthetic cover it all Till one day they call your name You know it’s time for the hammer to fall

Rich or poor or famous For your truth it’s all the same Lock your door the rain is pouring Through your window pane Baby now your struggle’s all in vain

For we grew up tall and proud In the shadow of the mushroom cloud Convinced our voices can’t be heard We just wanna scream it louder and louder and louder

What the hell we fighting for ? Just surrender and it won’t hurt at all You just got time to say your prayers While you’re waiting for the hammer to fall

There already IS agreement on that; it’s just a matter of choosing your team…

“I think you know that there’s no such thing as an American anymore. No Hispanics, no Japanese, no blacks, no whites, no nothing. It’s just rich people and poor people. The three of us are all rich, so we’re on the same side.” – Deep Cover

Remember strict grading on the curve? …no matter how well everyone did, some people had to get Fs, most Cs and a few As. That’s what grading on the curve means.

A fractional reserve money creation system means that money transfers from the people who produce tangible value to those who have the power to create new money and decide who gets to borrow and invest it.

In the US, we give that power to create new money to the private banking and financial sector (although there’s no reason State governments can’t play the game, too…North Dakota has a State Bank).

Under our current system, a tiny percentage at the very top will always do best, a tier of about 20% will do better, and the bottom 80% will get another day older and deeper in debt. That’s the system.

harleyquinn, “Things are not what they seem, nor are they otherwise.”

Two seemingly conflicting ideas can both be true. You’re right that this is a country where, with a great idea, hard work and some capital, you can become rich. Even without capital it is possible to succeed —though less frequently.

It’s also true that the system is set up to give enormous power to the private financial sector to choose who gets the capital that is often necessary for building a successful business. Recognizing systemic issues and constraints doesn’t make one a “victimcrat,’ it makes one smarter than the people who think that they are Free! from any of the impact of culture, policy, laws, media manipulation, etc.

Private banks in the US (in our fractional reserve monetary/banking system) have the power to create money out of thin air. That gives their owners an edge, don’t you think?
