Breaking the 4th wall for a legitimate reason today! (My own personal preference is for characters to do that only when they are actually talking to the reader, not merely rolling their eyes at him when some other character gives what is at least supposed to be the punch line. That always has the feeling of the writers patting themselves on the back and it can be really annoying.)
