Yep. Not only that, but I remember how we were going to pay for the expansion of Medicaid with the money we would save for not being at war anymore. Instead, we’re still spending money on arms and personnel based in Iraq and Afghanistan, now sending more personnel to Syria and paying for the Medicaid expansion by severely curtailing Medicare payments. Can’t blame any of that on Bush. And I’m NOT a Republican…

This is really humorous, considering GT is recycling the strips because he no longer has the virility that he had in his youth. Getting money for nothing, and his clicks for free.

And let us not forget that it is the families of wounded service personnel who are bearing the burden for inadequate medical care provided to their veterans.

Not that Obama has done much better in the Middle East, but he now realizes (too late!) that the West cannot control events there.

This is NOT another Vietnam – I mean Iraq starts with an I, and Vietnam starts with a V. Other than that, though,…..Read Tim Weiner’s “Legacy of Ashes – The history of the CIA” if you want to understand the failings of the intelligence community.

These wars were crimes against humanity which caused millions of deaths and injuries as well as continued strife. The wars were condemed by the international community but the guilty remain unpunished

Many things have changed since the days of Vietnam in terms of strategy. If we were depending on boots on the ground, in the way that we were during the 1960’s, along with the draft, there would be a huge outcry. I hope we never go back to the situation we had during Vietnam. Hundreds of young Americans coming home every week in body bags. It was happening a few decades ago. My oldest brother survived Vietnam but he knew many who didn’t. It is sad that my brother didn’t feel as if he contributed in the same as way as our father, who participated in WWII. However, they were not the same in terms of justification for participating in those two different wars. It is well and good for many to say that we should send more boots on the ground, these are usually the folks who don’t have family participating in the military and they certainly are not members of the military themselves. To say that we should not be at war at all in the middle east is a separate issue and may be debated as well.

Our invasion of the Phillipines was supposed to be quick & easy, too; we were still occasionally fighting “bandits” (read “freedom fighters”) when we finally left 100 years later. Nope, 18 years fighting in Vietnam is NOT the record Iraq is shooting for……….

Wasn’t that Winston Smith’s job in “1984”? Changing the news of the past to match the message of today?

I think Gary tried to sneak an Orwellian reference past us! Nicely done. :-)

Both Bernie and Hillary represent the poor and middle class. The GOP speaks for the oligarchy. Hillary would prefer to stay out of wars but is a realist, just as Obama has been. They are both owls rather than Hawks or doves.

A lot of GOP people are currently in favor of Bernie since they know he has no chance in the general election, therefore he is their preference, naturally.

Racist, sexist and xenophobic are all adjectives, not nouns, therefore not name-calling. Also, whether or not you “belong to a debating society where the first person that resorts to name-calling automatically loses the debate” is immaterial, not to mention, not even technically true.

Some of Donald trump’s best friends call him the Donald. If it is a perjorative to call him this, I am sure they would not be his friends. If you find me to be invalid in my comments, you might as well not respond.

@DoctorDan@DavidHuieGreen“Taking what they want is not provocative, but objecting to those actions is? As you put it, interesting.”.Yep, most interesting.I can give you another well-known example, that of Saddam Hussein invading Kuwait. He had no intention of provoking war with the United States of America. He even verified with our ambassador that we would stay out of his conquest before he did it.(Admittedly, he had her say that while standing in the blood of the last person who didn’t say what he wanted, but she spoke for the USA even there. He was very surprised when President GHWBush stood up to him. He had always tried to avoid war at any cost.).Russia has no reason to expect real opposition to its actions, therefore it is not intending to provoke..China certainly isn’t even taking what it hasn’t claimed already since back in the last millennium. I understand there are those who think is is provocative for someone to buy a gun with the intention of defending herself in case of attack, but they aren’t really intending to protect her either. China is providing itself means to protect its interests in a world contain pirates and warring nations. Nobody else is protecting them.
