In my elementary school, baseball was a big deal. When players were being selected for the teams, I was last to be picked.
I was always last to be picked too. Mostly because I had been hit in the head with a thrown bat and was extremely phobic about anything being thrown at me. I would duck instead of trying to hit the ball with a bat. I did better at kickball because that ball always stayed near the ground.
Tag-a longs (younger siblings who, What’s the word? oh tag along), are fair game for pranks to get them out of the way. She is too young to know she way dissed. Eventually she will figure it out for herself. It will hurt. But she will learn from it. Today’s kids are spaired the pain, and the lesson.
Same here. Wasn’t particularly interested in sports. Also chosen last, but that didn’t bother me until I read in an Ann Landers column that it should’ve!
Last to be picked, first to be traded off..And if you come back to your original team, like you’re supposed to do, they’ll tell you “Get outta here!”.You know you don’t have the talent or ability, you know you’re not going to do good, and they force you into the game anyway, and wonder why you’re no good..A lot of good lessons there! Yeah, right..The only lesson never learned is how stupid athletes and coaches get to be.
I didn’t mind being picked last. I began to realize that there seemed to be a magnetic attraction between the ball and my face.
Later, I found out it was because my eyes were not working together. One worked for distance, one for close up and that messed up my depth perception. I didn’t get glasses until the problem was too well developed for me to play sports.
