-I can remember when Gunther was tutoring Tiffany and suddenly decided that he Bernice was the woman he needed. Despite all Tiffany’s efforts to keep him there (telling him she could make coffee, too, and suddenly finding another math problem she needed help with), Gunther didn’t even hear her, and left on his ‘mission’ to convince Bernice they belonged together.

And now Tiffany tries with the coffee and a missing button, and gets no reaction from Piro. Or at least not the reaction she expected.

Will Tiffany learn anything from this? (Will Gunther?)

by the way, no evidence of a skort yesterdaysad that no matter how hot, Tiffany just flamed out.Age is sneaking up on her.Pretty soon she won’t be able to raise the dead with a twitch.

KInda hoping Tiff goes back in, realized just how hot Gunther got looking at her. Perhaps they both hit the reset button and try heating themselves back up.

I’m starting to think that Piro is on downers.

That hissing sound is either steam coming out of Gunther’s ears, or Tiffany’s ego deflating.

Extending the drama here again. Not sure if, or how, Piro might react to Tiffany’s last little gambit with the button. Drama!! My bet is that he keeps on walking. No effect. Tiffany will be crushed, and Gunther will be the one who comforts her. Or…Bernice opens her door, and Piro goes to her in some way. Again Tiffany would be crushed, and Gunther will have very conflicted emotions. Those are two scenarios, I am sure there are many other, but I think it will be a version of either of those.

The fact that Gunther is in the room with Tiffany would have to give Piro a very mixed signal.Tiffany may be acting like she wants Piro to come in for a romantic interlude, but the fact that she already has another guy in the room would likely indicate to Piro that no such experience is going to take place between himself and Tiff, even if that was what he wanted.

Nice job Tiff! However we haven’t seen anything that Piro is interested in. We are entitled to eventually find out what’s with this guy. In the meantime, not to worry about Berneice and Piro – or Berneice and Gunther… Tiff is suddenly showing us that she IS an actress. Gunther – Hug her!

I see it all now: Tiff is going to have her moment of self-doubt, Gunther will comfort her, they will be drawn closer to each other, and then. . . Greg chickens out and we’re force to watch some PG rated cop out.

Piro is either too worried about being homeless or our first male gay character.

Let me guess-this “Piro” is of the same “sexual orientation” as the “lesbian thespian”-hence the lack of interest in Tiffany.

Now, given that Piro has been in her place before it would seem that some communication went on. I bet when they were alone, Tiffany just was natural—as with Gunther.If you are going to act, playing hard to get is better. Piro’s interested and experiences are much different than our little group.What we know: he eats popcorn, likes silent movies, needs a place to sleep. Doesn’t mean he’s gay, a vet with residual problems (wait, he would have a GI Bill and less money problems, no?). Tiffany needs to give up the tease. It isn’t working and she has a much better time being open and honest with Gunther.

Piro has something bothering him. Looks like it might be something serious. He seems a little dead inside.

Wow – not only did this idea not get off the ground, it exploded in the hanger.

I’m not persuaded that Piro could see Gunther, if you study the geometry of the first panel. He may not have realized that Gunther was there, but he still doesn’t much want to pursue anything with an obviously “interested” Tiffany.

Piro strikes me as a character with unexplored depths, I don;t want to think that Team Evans will just “reveal” that he’s gay and let that be the resolution. They’ve invested plenty of time in suggesting that there’s more going on behind that star…

But then, this strip is also known for huge, drawn-out buildups leading to a very predictable and ho-hum resolution. I’d like to think Karen is maturing as a writer as she and Greg bring their characters into a new stage of their lives.

We’ll see.

I also can’t help remembering that Gunther is a costumer. Tiffany will certainly have a sewing kit in her suite. So Gunther will have a perfectly reasonable excuse for telling Tiffany to take her top off so he can fix that dratted button…

And meanwhile Gunther is hopping from one side of the room to the other. Jumping to conclusions, hopefully.

8Interesting day today! I am actually happy that Tiffany’s prior “tease” strategies did not work with Piro. From my perspective, I think the lack of success of that strategy is a good one for Tiffany to experience to hopefully reinforce her new development towards her kinder, more thoughtful self. If her “tease” would have easily worked, it would have instead reinforced the prior Tiffany behaviors and actions. Someone before me in the comments suggested that Tiffany’s “button off” action may lead to seamstress Gunther working to fix the situation. This could be quite fun, and if done well, could actually lead both Tiff and Gunther one step closer to a blossoming romantic interest in each other that so many of us have been rooting for. There are many reasons I see for Piro not becoming engaged by Tiffany’s “tease”…. 1) Perhaps he has a girlfriend (perhaps at Moony or some other campus or community) and is actually a faithful guy and ignores the “tease”, 2) Perhaps he is a socially unaware fellow (like Gunther is, but in a different way) and did not pick up on the obvious cues, 3) Perhaps Tiffany is not the type of female Piro finds interesting, 4) Perhaps Piro is of a different orientation like many suggest (although I think this is unlikely, for I think introducing Piro as a non-heterosexual character with this close proximity to having Prudence be self-identified as lesbian seems rushed and unlikely), and 5) Perhaps Piro really is destitute like others have suggested (although I hope this is not true either, as I think it would be more interesting/fun for him to just choose this sort of lifestyle rather than be forced into it).

Just glad Bernice didn’t show up. Didn’t make emotional sense to me. (She is licking her self-inflicted wounds.) Today moves the action along. I am back to thinking of each character having a super power and their own lethal kind of kryptonite. Is this Tiffany’s moment for the latter? I am hoping Tiff has a crisis and really is comforted by Gunther – friend to friend. Gunther is perfect here because he won’t take advantage of her, much to the disappointment of some of the “little boys” out there. See Argy.bargy2’s reactions – same as me.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what Piro’s backstory is, and how he got to this point where he has to shuffle from place to place to find a place to sleep. Someone i know in Belgium who missed being in the wrong location by mere minutes yesterday (though they all hoped the boomed station woukd not fall in or other bombs go off while passing through to the next station on an intact track) this morning told me something terribly sad. Syrian children have been diving under tables in classrooms when frightening noises happen, afraid not only of ethnic bigots but also that ISIS which destroyed their families and homes in Syria are now after them in Belgium.

I don’t necessarily see Piro as LGBT. He could be, simply, just “not interested.” If some hottie just plopped herself down next to me and said “Hi There,” do you think I would jump on her… (err… uh, “it”)…? ;-) Nope. Because that just doesn’t happen to me anymore on a regular basis (never really did…)… and I’d be very suspicious of why it’s happening right now, all of a sudden. Okay, i can not find the post, but if memory serves me, Dave said that Piro might not be interested in someone Tiff’s age. Having said that same thing, i can tell folks that is correct in terms of how some young men and women respond. They just do not want people who act like teens. There are big differences in maturity among many people within just a few years in that general age cohort. Why some people would assume a general statement like that must mean only going younger might well say more about preconceptions they should explore than about what was written, should my recollection and interpretation be correct.

I think it’s a cop-out to just assume that Piro is gay. Why can’t a person turn down someone who’s seemingly hot for them, without being called gay? Not everyone is interested in jumping in the sack with just anyone. Maybe Piro prefers women like Dez or Crystal. Maybe Tiff reminds him of a girl back in high school who burned him and so he’s leery of having anything romantic or sexual with her. I know of guys who find females that come on strong to be a put off, and prefer to do the pursuing themselves. Maybe he doesn’t like a girl who comes off as high maintenance. Maybe as someone said, he has Asperger’s. Maybe he’s still nursing a broken heart and has no desire to deal with relationships at the moment. There are so many more interesting possibilities, that to just go, “Yup. Gay” is incredibly boring and unimaginative if you ask me.

Brd Crash might be on to something, It seems nobody in this strip has sex, the last person to have a drink was Gunther in Peru, and the brownies aren’t loaded. Coffee is how they party?

At least Tiffany had the sense to give Piro something practical and useable on the run (which he is mostly)…. and we now know that nothing has happened between those two. …….and that ‘nothing’ is going on between Piro and any girl thus far.

Piro’s expression in panel two seems to indicate he is quite aware of what Tiffany is trying to do. If I had to guess, I would say that he looks somewhat amused (akin to his look when he asked Bernice “when” in response to her soliloquy on how she was a good listener). Interestingly, his expression in panel three looks almost disappointed, perhaps even sad, which is quite a change from the prior panel. Maybe he expected something different from Tiffany based on their past interactions (which seem unlikely to have included exposure to coquettish Tiffany). Or perhaps her last ditch effort reminds him of something or someone else.

Either way, I think his response, or lack there of, to Tiffany’s wiles may be much more complex than the easy answer of him being gay. As many have pointed out above, there are many reasons beyond homosexuality that might lead to Piro not being caught up in Tiffany’s obvious (perhaps too obvious) web.

Poor Tiff.The sad truth is that she’s as inept at attracting guys as Gunther is at attracting girls – maybe even more so, judging from their successes. She struck out with Quill and has been apparently dateless for years and years. She’s spending her college years hanging out with a dorky study-buddy..Gunther somehow got Rosa as a girlfriend, and actually dumped her. Tiff has never had the chance to dump anyone (maybe back in the Bush Administration).

That fact that Piro is not charmed by Tiffany’s popping buttons doesn’t require any special explanation (gay, asexual, mentally ill, castration). The fact that he hangs out at the dorm looking for a place to stay, and just with the ladies, DOES, however. Also, I think what got Bernice’s young juices flowing wasn’t the stay over so much as the watching the silent movie together. She realized that he had some depth. This depth comes out when he ignores Tiffany’ T & A cheerleader act. Now if she suggested an old time marathon movie date, well, who knows?
