Wow they are both nicely dressed and really seem to fit well together. Piro is an issue with Bernice, Tiffany is an issue with Gunther, although, for different reasons, and in both cases, we can hope they can circle around to see the value of their possible relationship. Gunther is clearly interested, but Bernice is clearly interested in Piro, not necessarily because she is attracted to him. After all the story line that was left over a month ago was that Piro might have spent the night in Tiffany’s room, and no one has seen either of them since. So…again, all sorts of possibilities. I, for one, hope they see a relationship, then cue Rosa!!

I don’t know if it is just me. But it seems that Ox has lost some weight since he was first introduced in the strip.

Don’t worry, Piro will be built up into a Great Big Mystery, and then resolved off-strip, with at best a one panel mention like TJ. Or else like Elwood he’ll simply vanish, mystery and all, never to be heard from again.

Looking at Bern over time, it seems quite clear that she’s focused on no one but Bern. She may not be as obsessed about her appearance and being liked as Tiffany, but it’s the same kind of narcissism.

I am disagreeing a little with the negative drift of the other comments here. I think this is a good choice by the Evans team. The Piro element is still unresolved, and Bern is stuck. She is not seeing Gunth as a romantic partner, for sure. They set us up for this by having Gunther help Quinn see his part in the problems with Luann. Bern is a little self-absorbed, but people come with issues. Let’s let this develop a little – WAY more interesting than Ms. Pru.

Well, this subject was expected. Dreamdeer mentioned the scarf Bernice is wearing which I missed. Is it the one Piro left on her couch? I did catch the suit & tie Gunther has on. I’ll be in a blizzard starting tonight until sometime tomorrow so I may not have any computer tomorrow as I’m wireless.

Well there goes my hope in this group after reading the comments on today’s strip. Up until now everything seemed pretty decent and normal for us that follow the strip but so much negativity today and for some (not all) reading into things way too much such as whether advertising was done for the Kafe. It’s been established that Gunther is not gay so why people keep harping on that is beyond me. It does happen more than guys would like to admit that a girl has called them to talk about another guy. just bummed about today’s group I guess.

I haven’t seen anything that shows Piro as enrolled in school. Among others who have speculated that Piro is homeless, I’ve suggested he may be a homeless vet with PTSD or other traumatic injury, since he told Bernice how much he liked silence.

During the Vietnam war (tells you how old I am) I was a volunteer on a crisis switchboard at U of Arizona. We thought we would be talking to scared freshmen, away from home first time and maybe failing school. That’s what they trained us for. What we got were lots of returned vets who were living rough, couldn’t figure out why they couldn’t read or why they got the shakes when a car backfired, and the VA wasn’t helping them.

Piro kind of reminds me of them…

Even after his South American experience Gunther continues to too often circle around life looking in. Bernice does that even more, to the point where it feels at times that she does not even realize that she is doing it. As Gunther’s mom tried to tell him, there are times when a person is best off tossing away the rule book and just trying things, even if they wind up hurting. Somehow i doubt Bernice has been bluntly told that. She is perhaps having the hardest time growing up of anyone in their crew because she has always been so careful to be the good little girl. Bernice and Tiffany have the core of that in common: each has tried to live her life so far according to the expectations of others, rather than finding her own pathways. So, Bernice turned to Gunther as an old friend without realizing that he sees dfferent possible roles for them. Piro, meanwhile, might be very surprised by the heat unknowingly created in his name.

I have yet to vote for anyone who supported sending weapons to ISIS.

I lost friends in Vietnam and volunteered on a crisis switchboard that ended up counseling homeless vets. Volunteer for services right now that work on housing homeless vets back from Iraq.

Doubtful that Bernice thinks she’s dissing Gunther. They never had a close relationship before, so it’s unlikely that it would occur to her that he’d be interested. Specially since he was interested in Rosa, who is nothing like Bernice.

Gunther may not know Piro at all. Bernice knows that Gunther spends a lot of time with Tiffany as a study partner, though, and so Bern hopes Gunther can tell her whether Tiff and Piro are an item. And yes, this stoyr line certainly would make a lot more sense if these characters were still in junior high rather than in their sophomore year of college, but that’s Luann for you in a nutshell.

When will Gunthers beard start growing he’s had that 5 o’clock shadow for a long time.

The large number of responses today show that the Evans are onto something. Buttons are being pushed. There is gentility mixed with free floating hostility. There is a tremor in the force!

At this point it’s hard to decide who’s the saddest:1: Luann for waving that boomerang necklace in everyone (but especially Tiffany’s) face like it was an engagement ring,2. Bernice for wearing a dude’s forgotten scarf like it was a token of affection, or3. Gunther for putting on a suit just to go to the coffee shop.

At this point I’d much rather watch Gunther’s mom’s relationship with Mr Gray unfold. Should be less eye-rolling than this, at least. Mrs B. seems rather sweet as well, and it would be nice to see adults who act like adults, rather than these oversized middle-schoolers we’re currently stuck with.
