What?! These guys forgotten what fire is?! Johnny Hart mustturning over is grave (and screaming in Heaven!). When I read this comic back in the sixties, there was a story-line about them discovering it!
This strip never could decide if it really is prehistoric, or current day with a caveman motif. It makes endless references to modern people and things- and then suddenly, back to the stone age setting.
Many cartoonists tend to make up the rules as they go along- whatever they think is funny that day with no regard to what they’ve said before.
Every year, I used to have a flaming pumpkin…I don’t bother with lights or candles but instead build a torch per say inside…so fire comes out of all the places that have been carved. The idea was to burn it into ash in a safe place each year. Turned out it scared the little kids too much so they would avoid my house. Ironically it would last upwards of 6 hours before finally caving in. Due to the high amounts of moisture in the pumpkin insides, plus once it gets carbonized…it can’t really burn much more. Like trying to burn a log in a camp fire that is all carbon without breaking it off.

It sort of a odd mix of one who is a futuristic caveman and the others who are prehistoric. One knows all and the others know nothing.
