Here in the UK leaf-fall doesn’t really begin for at least another month, except for one or two ornamental species. For all you Harry Potter fans out there, this is how we know that Snape defected nearly a year before the Potters died, because they died at the end of October, and Snape defected both before their deaths, after Harry’s birth and against a scene of recently (because the leaves are still blowing around) bare trees which, if it is in the UK at all, could not be earlier than late November or much later than January (after which the leaves would be mulch).
Around here, the leaves are only just starting to change color. But a week from tomorrow will be the nine-year anniversary of the October Surprise storm “Aphid” That took out most of Western NY.
