I was watching World’s Dumbest Criminals. Guy went to rob auto repair place in morning. Guy on duty said no money till afternoon, so the crook said he’d be back. The cops were waiting.
I read once, a guy tried to hold up a bank with a hold-up note on something with another banks name on it. So the teller told him the note was only good for that other bank. So he left and went to the other bank. (true or not, I don’t know).
