@desertdiggerScrounge up some of Clarence Mulford’s original Cassidy books; the movies and TV shows were pale imitations, even if they were great when we were kids.
I was too young to remember, but my mother told me I met Hopalong Cassidy just before the start of the 1951 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He was in the parade and had his horse with him. He came over to say hi and his horse bent his head down, probably to take a sniff, but according to my mother, I patted him. I was 9 months old at the time.
If you’re really old, “Leo G. Carroll” is the wrong wrong answer. The right wrong answer is “Roland Young”. (If your answer is “Roddy McDowall”, you’re just weird.)
The horse name was Topper. I remember my mom got a whole set of containers with that horse theme. They were known as Topper-ware. (sorry, l have to say it..)

I read one of Louis L’amour’s original Hopalong Cassidy stories and never looked at the TV series the same again.

When I was a kid, I had a Hopalong Cassidy lunchbox.
They are quite collectible these days…
