Anyone notice that corporations always use the courts to settle their problems? Add their limited liability status to the mix and you basically have an entity viod of responsibility.
Freedom of speech trumps corporate immorality. If you can limit what corporations can say, you can find a way to limit what I can say. If you can be swayed by a corporate election advertisement, you don’t need to be voting.
Burenar, The point of advertisements are not to get you to vote for a particular candidate. Its to discourage you from voting. If you see two candidates with an equal amount of negative ads on each you would not want to vote for either one cause you would think that both of them are crooked.
BP can whip out $50 million in ads overnight to influence public opinion. The court says that in essence, a corporation doesn’t have the right of just an individual, but allows them the “votes” of all their stockholders, employees, and clients as well. An “individual” has no such power or “right”.
i agree with THAT one decision, but for REAL campaign reform,
that will drive the media controllers insane,
a blanket charge of $2.00 for ea .30 political ad.
That would ALLOW anyone to run for office.
instead of $1000-2500 ea, making all pols attend fundraisers day and night for 2 years, instead of serving in office- both sides.
Unknown to many U.S. citizens: the airways belong to the people, NOT those who rent/lease the bandwidth/airways.
Burenar, rights inhere to human beings. Corporations are not human beings, they are artificial entities. The individuals who make up corporations have rights, but the corporations do not. (The difference is, of course, that individuals have moral and legal responsibilities, as well, which corporations do not.) The right to freedom of speech should not apply.
And how many of you IDIOTS were swayed by the BP ads?
IF you are stupid enough to believe every thing you see on TV or read in the paper or whatever, you deserve what you get!

Really only 4. Don’t lie, cheat, steal or kill. Maybe a few others but that’s a good start.
